Title: So... The Hangover was pretty funny.
Post by: Human Snorenado on June 06, 2009, 05:35:16 PM
Todd Phillips is still a shitty director, tho.  Helms and Galifianakis made the movie.

Fat Jesus was pretty much the best character ever.

Loved the movie. Funniest flick I've seen this year.

Funniest movie I've seen this year, absolutely loved it. And I love Todd Phillips, for the record.

As I said in the Recently Watched Movies thread, this is the comedy of the year so far. Much funnier than I expected it to be with a great core cast and rarely any downtime between jokes. The ending was a bit lackluster, but the AMAZING picture montage during the credits made up for it. Loved it.

I couldn't see his dick. I thought something was wrong with my contacts.

Movie spoilers for a comedy?  It's just not the same, especially with so many visual gags.

Eh, I might bootleg it. I got some pretty negative reviews from friends I trust.

The trailer was pretty ho-hum and it looks like an American Pie movie for the post-collegiate crowd. Not really drawing me in.

the best part of the movie was the wedding singer @ the end

i watched a cam because i couldnt help myself

and now regret it because he cut out RIGHT @ the credits RIGHT when you get to see what happened

It shits all over any Ferrell/Wilson/Stiller/Vaughn/unfunny crew and every Apatow production with the possible exception of 40YOV.

Saw it earlier. Pretty great, nailed the montage in the credits. Makes me pretty hype about going back to Las Vegas in a few months!

I think it might be the best comedy in the last 10 years.  I watched it without having ANY idea what it was about and so I didn't know how hyped to be.  Best way to watch it, especially with the dialog in this movie.

One thing that I disliked though was

spoiler (click to show/hide)
how the fuck did Allen win all of the money back?  I thought that scene was a daydream at first, especially with how the stripper just suddenly appears.

I guess a few plotholes in a movie like this isn't a big deal about but the DVD will probably have a lot of deleted scenes I'm guessing.

Oh boy, Apatow hate?  Of course, that's the new cool thing to do.

You'll have to direct me towards the hate part of my post, BN. All I said was that The Hangover is better than all those movies.

Not that I think Apatow is any major genius when it comes to comedy, but I think folks forget the 90's and studio's over-reliance on its SNL "character of the week" flicks that were the theatrical staple for comedy then. Very few highlights comedically speaking (Office Space comes to mind) if I'm remembering correctly.

yeah, I know that he WANTED to win a lot of money..using some tip book.  But the odds of him doing that crazy-genius math, the guys handing him the 10 grand, and the stripper being there just cuz made it seem like it was some sort of roofie hangover dream.

Moot point I guess.

It was okay. If I had anything better to do I wouldn't have seen it.
It mostly makes me think of how I want to watch something wickedly clever that doesn't rely on taboo humor too much.  I can't really think of one I've seen. Sex/homo/racist/drug shticks are tired.

I really enjoyed it. Best comedy I have seen this decade, for sure.

Swingers/Clerks, Groundhog's Day, Jim Carrey movies, Ben Stiller movies, Farrelly Brothers and a few black-themed comedies (Friday, Don't Drink Gin and Juice).

But I get your point.

Yeah, that comment was made off the top of my head, and there were some really great comedy flicks that I'd thought had come out post-2000 (Something About Mary came out in '98?! Excuse me while I change my adult diaper).

muckhole annihilated.

There's Something About Mary is probably my favorite comedy ever.
