And a surround sound system.  He doesn't have a job 'till February.  I think he has a problem.

Thats why I fear Credit Cards. Don't want to spend beyond my means.

Thats a crazy amount of money to just throw down on credit

I did that when the Japanese DC came out.  No job, no money but I maxed out my CC to get a system at launch with all the games.

I look back on it now, Godzilla and PenPen probably were not worth it...

...but VF3tb was  :D

Debit cards FTW!

Even though I barely have any money, I'd rather be in this situation than be in a situation where I was in debt. I remember someone here saying bad credit is better than no credit in the long run, and that makes sense...but until I get a good job I'm not going to consider getting a credit card. I can soooo see myself doing something stupid with it, like buying a 360 and a new monitor for my computer. Ugh

I have one credit card and even thats too much. While I have to wait longer to get things, student loans put em in enough debt.

I'm so glad I avoided that problem; my college education was paid for on my first birthday by my uncle. And then of course in "highschool" I was also in a middle college that was free; WTMC. Akia also was in it

I don't dabble in credit cards.  I had one when I was 18.  I bought some DVD's, paid that shit off and then cut it up.  Then I did the same thing when I switched banks.  That's always been pretty good on my credit.

I don't trust myself with credit cards.  I'm too much of a compulsive buyer.  If I don't have the cash for it, I have no business buying it.

Yes, well said, although it IS good to have one for emergencies.  You never know when you might need it, especially when you're travelling.

I only have an AMEX card...I use it every month, mainly for buying stuff online, but I never go overboard with it, especially since you HAVE to pay it off entirely every month.  It's not like other cards that have minimum payment options.

During college, I got into some debt twice...not even that much...I think the highest I ever owed was somewhere under $2,000, but still, that's a lot for a college student with a crappy part-time job.  Luckily I got EVERYTHING settled and paid off after I graduated and went to Japan.  I don't really have much money saved up, but I'm also completely debt-free, and that feels good.

Willco, your friend is clearly going to learn the hard way.  But hey, I guess if worst comes to worst, he can always take all the crap he bought and sell it all off to make money to pay towards his debts.  :P
