The second movie got a bit too crazy, though it's still a good movie. First one is perfection.

If the original did not exist and the sequel were released today, it would be called the greatest summer popcorn flick of all-time (just look at the ludicrous reactions to Star Trek).

But as previously stated, the 1984 classic is pretty much perfect.  Save for some rough special effects (most of which still look ten times better than crappy CG efforts), there's not much you can improve on.  The writing is fantastic, pacing is wonderful, actors are on their top game, etc.  It truly is an example of a production coming together to make something totally original.

The sequel suffers from being too family friendly (the tone of the original was much darker) and it pretty much is a remake of the sequel in terms of structure.

Any final word on the blu-ray transfer being messed up or not?

I hear it pretty much sucks.

I seriously would've bought a BD player and a copy if that were not the case.

The BD looks much better than the DVD, so I'm good.

As for Ghostbusters II, I've always found it too family friendly for my liking. I even had this problem with it back in 1989 when it came out and I was only 8 years old.

Yeah, it's really the achilles heel of the sequel.  It definitely lacks that edge that has made the original so revered.

I hope Dan Aykroyd's script for Ghostbusters 3 gets made into a game, though.  It sounded funny - Satan evicting people from Hell (which is a mirror image of Manhattan) because it's getting too overcrowded.  The concept is too silly for a movie, but I think would be ripe for a game.

Aside from some grain, the transfer is just fine.

Nope, it sucks.  People just taking what they get.

I hate the whole Vigo plotline. And Peter MacNicol's character and horrible accent. And the pink slime. And the baby.

God, Ghosbusters II sucks.  :(

It's no Wall-E, but I think it looks as good as you could expect. There's a lot of grain, but from what I've read, that's the way it's always looked.

No, it has not always been that grainy.  It looks like an upscaled DVD to me.  The lack of clarity is pretty evident.  It's a mediocre transfer.

People confuse the sequel being lesser with the sequel sucking.

It was actually fucking awesome and a worthy sequel in every way, too hot to handle, too cold to hold.

One of the few high points of GBII.

I think my biggest problem with GBII was seeing the original in the theaters and then a million times following, watching the brilliant cartoon and then seeing the sequel...  :(

All the reviews I've read of the release say the exact opposite, though.

What was the line?  It's so long since I've seen Ghostbusters.

Are there any circa 80 films that have good HD transfers?  I'll stick with the DVD for now.

Godfather 2.

Also I wish they'd go back into the end of GB1 and get rid of the matte paintings they used for manhattan. They look beyond terrible and fake.

Also watching it again I do think GB1 does have some pacing and cheesy issues. Of note is the scene where they fall into the street.

That's a nitpick if there's ever one.

Cleaning up the circa 80s matte paintings ruins the charm.

sorry but whenever I view that scene I can't get it out of my head that it was shot in a studio.
