Title: I met the Deerhunter's daughter
Post by: GilloD on June 22, 2009, 06:11:51 PM
I was volunteering at this thing on Saturday and I was prepping like a giant case of strawberries and talking to this girl who was helping out. She was saying there her Dad was a screenwriter. So I was all, "Did he have any success?" and she replied, "Kind of. He got a big break early in his career and then kind of spent the rest of his career watching things not happpen" and I was like, "Bummer, whatw as his big break?"

"Uh, maybe you know it, Deerhunter?"

 :-X

True story.

Early success then his career petered out after Deer Hunter? I dunno, sounds like it could have been DeNiro.

Did he stop writing or did his later work garner no interest from any studios?

Hollywood needs screenwriters around like him now.

The way she made it sound it was like he was writing plenty and nothing was getting off thr ground.

Makes sense. These days if it ain't a sequel, remake or established franchise, you're not going to get much of a look-in.

The only other way I think is if a well-known director/producer takes an interest in one of your scripts and backs you. It certainly is tough.
