Title: Ok Bore, feel like doing something good by gaming?

Basically, you play video games for 24 hours straight. Any game. And you get people to donate money for you doing this. Even if you cant do 24 hours nonstop, there is a makeup day the next week or just finis hthe time up playing when you can. Any game. Wii. PS3. 360. Iphone. Ipod Touch. PC. Doesn't matter.

Also, if you don't want to you can just donate to one of the teams (tax deductible in the U.S., other countries' residents can check as well.)

So Bore, feel up to doing this?

I feel capable of doing this, actually.  It fits my strengths, sitting, consuming mass amounts of caffeine and videogames.

Will Modern Warfare 2 or Left 4 Dead 2 be out by then?

i can barely scratch together half an hour to play anything these days.  having to sit on your ass for 24 hours for me would be abysmal and inhuman.  i hope you understand where im comin from

Nah, if you are gonna participate in the marathon basically you get people to sponsor you via donations to a page you setup on the extralife site. Then you play. They raised, with just a few small sites doing it, 120,000 in the first year last year. Doesn't sound like much I know, but hey, every bit helps.

Basically if you do it, you get friends/family to donate/sponsor you for doing it. You'd setup a page on the extralife site and anyone sponsoring you would donate from there via CC, paypal, etc.

The private photo would have to be another way obviously :) Maybe via EB messages or via private email between the two of you.

That is too much work. Someone else set it up and I'll set up a webcam for 24 hour streaming. When do I have to start and when can I end? Can I take shits?

You dont have to stream it or anything. Just create a page and then have people donate to you through it.  The date to do it is in October. So there is plenty of time to setup and prepare. And yes, you can take shits and eat and such. They just want you to total 24 hours of gaming as fast as you can. Quite a few people last year just did 12 hours on the marathon day, and then 12 on the makeup day. (I'm also quite sure some didnt make 24 hours total on either day.)

Well how do I prove that I'm actually doing something? I could get a bunch of rubes to donate to me then go off and sleep all day.

So basically you could do that. Especially since people are donating beforehand it seems. But I'd at least try to do as much as I could gaming wise, but thats just me.

I will say this though. I posted this on both EB and GAF. At least EB has responded and shown an interest in helping kids out at least. GAF has ignored it so far.

Well, since I plan on doing this too Demi, I'll make a Team Bore page, but you'll still need to at least signup so that people can donate to you. Unless you just don't care about signing up and direct them to donate to another member of The Bore.

Yeah, I already talked to a couple of people - I'll be doing Halo 3.

Bungie will do the stat tracking for me, the matchmaking is slow enough to allow for bathroom breaks, there are a decent set of gameplay modes, ODST means a spike in players, etc.

I down to donate a couple hundred but the caveat is that it has to be a good game that is played.  This no means MMOs, medieval shit (unless it comes from the Eastern Bloc), generic science fiction fare, and Wii games.
