Title: Heroes of Might & Magic V is $5 on Steam this weekend
Post by: M3wThr33 on June 26, 2009, 03:46:05 PM
Buy this game, god dammit. It's a 3D Remake of HOMM3. (A FUCKING AWESOME TURN-BASED STRATEGY GAME)

$13 for the bundled expansions.

$20 if you want Dark Messiah, too.

Good price. It's not as good as HoMM3 though, be warned.

Tribes of the East (the second expansion) actually gives HoMM3 a run for its money. Not quite HoMM3 perfection, but still one of the top ten fantasy strategy games made IMO. They ported over all of the older campaigns from the other HoMM5 releases to the new Tribes of the East engine/map incarnation and the custom maps for TotE have been very good.

That's interesting. I did pick up Tribes of the East quite awhile ago from a Target clearence, but i haven't gotten through the two previous campaigns yet so i never installed it. Interesting that it's improved over the other 2.

So I bought and installed the whole HOMM5 bundle. Where should I start to do the whole campaign?

How's it compare to Kings Bounty

Alternate upgrade paths for creatures (ala Disciples 2), a huge "opening up" of the skill tree to allow for more diverse hero builds, a WAY better mapmaker, a big boost in itemization (including sets) ,overall bug fixes, and the large volume of downloadable free maps really made TotE stand out. It's the best HoMM since HoMM3.

Just start the original HoMM5 game for campaign play. It's plenty fun and if you're just getting going in the series you won't miss any of the TotE changes.

A good letter grade below, but then again King's Bounty is one of the best PC games made in the last five years.

Played more tonight. Controls are a bit wonky and I can't figure out how to break up stacks of troops, but for $5 TOTALLY worth it.
Deal ends in a few hours. Better hop on!
