It also means that no one will be playing Starcraft 2 at QuakeCon.

OH MY GOD. It's not like internet is in EVERY HOME AND CAFE in AMERICA WHAT WILL WE DO.
Welcome to 2009, nukkas! :tophat :pimp :zzz :hehe

-No LAN parties without routing all the computers through the internet.
-It's a basic function that has been in most multiplayer PC games for over a decade.
-Much lower latency through LAN.
There's like absolutely no reason at all not to have it.

So somebody will just hack it in then. :-*

Koreans don't care about LAN.
-
Okay it is indeed a move to counter warez fucks:
This is so much better than simply moving the game to consoles that Blizzard = redeemed
Wasn't it obvious? Battle.Net = DRM I don't see how this "redeems" anybody, even Steam has an off-line mode for LANs, and you don't hear them whining about OMG WAREZ!
-
Blizzard has turned to shit since they merged with Activision. :(
-
Doesn't starcraft still have a huge online community? I doubt they'd really have to worry about something like LAN increasing piracy.
-
Dumb as fuck. The first installment was one of best selling PC games ever, and they're worried about piracy? It seems strange when you consider what a big part of the game LAN tournaments are/were.
Koreans don't care about LAN.
Are you kidding? They're probably rioting in the streets as I type this
-
Hey now, we all know how piracy destroyed Starcraft sales.
-
I doubt Blizzard really has to worry about piracy, I would have liked to see LAN implemented. Obviously not a dealbreaker though, game's still going to rock :hyper
-
what year is it? oh yea, 2009
good jon blizz :bow
-
I'm going to torrent the first one to celebrate.
-
"bu-bu-but we did it to stop piracy!"
Fuck you, you guys make millions of dollars every fucking month and all your games sell fucking amazingly even if they are old. Adding LAN isn't going to kill you fuckers.
^
This, twenty times over. :/
-
I mean. Was a LAN party really just about cabling? You guys can all sit in the same room, still.

You got to set up somewhere that has high-speed internet access. Then you've got to make sure all the computers are connecting to the internet like they're supposed to. And you're splitting the signal several times over, which means more lag.
It's extra hassle that shouldn't even be there in the first place.
-
Who cares as long as BattleNet rocks for SCII. I wonder why they kept patching SC yet never fixed the archaic BattleNet stuff.
-
They're just encouraging you to stop having these godawful stench-a-thons with your and your friends in a tiny dark room. If you're going to enjoy a multiplayer video game like a civilized man, then purchase a console you dirty PC heathens.
I applaud Blizzard and their efforts to educate the feral PC gamers.
Wow, spittin truth in here. Just wow.

Now they'll just have to do it all alone in a dark room like the filthy console horde.
-
90% of the people whining about this were probably never going to use it anyway.
-No LAN parties without routing all the computers through the internet.
Is that really any less difficult than routing all the computers together and establishing a local area network between them all? It would suck if they did this for an FPS or something, but I doubt latency is really that much of an issue in an RTS.
-
It's a minor feature that should have been included. Nothing more or less than that, really.
-
TWEENY WITCHES

To be fair, some stench-a-thons are in gigantic dark rooms:

That picture would be even more awesome with Carmack sitting on a throne on that stage.

TWEENY WITCHES
Demi at a loss for words against superior argument, resorts to parroting of comment that has no bearing against the issue at hand. smh, demi.

Yeah.

without routing all the computers through the internet.
through the internet.
the internet.
Though I guess these days it's rare that there isn't an available WiFi connection if you're anywhere near civilization. It's still annoying, because you know for a fact that this isn't going to do jack shit to stop communities like Haofang.
-
Haven't heard anything to the contrary so yes. I'll be rolling my eyes hard if the campaign is average/barely above average.
-
This just means that ONLY pirates will be able to play on LAN.
Not that I care.
-
If Blizzard puts Diablo 3 on the consoles next then I'm fucking done with them.
Why do you care so much when you're already getting the game on PC?
