Title: Soooo....Anyone seeing Public Enemies this week?
Post by: Cheebs on June 30, 2009, 09:55:33 AM: I am a big Michael Mann fan and this is getting decent reviews but for some reason I have no hype at all and it's out in two days. Really weird. Anyway any non-Michael Bay fegs going?

Seriously this. This somehow isn't a theater movie for me, since I see movies in the cinema mostly to compensate for what the Blu-ray release doesn't do. Movies like Transformers, AVATAR, etc. All of which are designed for the cinema experience. This movie is the exact opposite.

Which actually reminds me, why don't they just release these kind of film simultaneously on Blu-ray/Dvd/Cinema. Piracy has gotten to the point that dvd quality movies are available virtually at the same week of cinema release anyway.

That would really kill the movie theater industry. Why bother going to the movies at all when you can go buy it for $19.99 or rent it for like $5? Not only does the theater not sell a seat, but it also loses out on the money made from over-priced refreshments.

What about price point? What if the Blu-rays/Dvds were to be more expensive,as in $19.99 for rent. Also, you're totally right about the cinema industry going down. But what if that was just done for a few kind of movies? I mean, Public Enemies will never ever sell as much tickets as Transformers or TDK. So what I mean is that, movies like "There Will Be Blood" ( not that I'm in anyway comparing the quality of those movies) etc. Who aren't made to be consumed by the masses initially, should just keep open as many windows as possible. Since it's usually these kind of movies that get pirate treatment earliest.

Also, I really think the movie industry should have their own for of "iTunes". Where movie publishers get together and offer movies online, earlier, and cheaper. So another way could be that they offer their movies, day and date as the cinema releases ( or even earlier!) on their online Shop/s. In iTunes fashion, since people can't rip those movies as easily anyway.

As you can see, I don't give a rats ass about the theatre industry. lol

The last thing I would call it is boring. It had some action and it had some drug cartel mystery shit. The one downside was that linkin park song but that didn't last too long.

I was just looking at the RT headlines and the negative reviews (like 50% of them) were saying Depp played the role entirely wrong and was the wrong man for the character. They say he plays him all cool & emotionless and that's not how he's supposed to be.
