Title: 4th of July food?

Hey guys,

were having a party at my place on Saturday, and since its the 4th of July, we were thinking of an American theme for the food!

so just wanted to ask all of you yanks, are there traditional foods eaten on the 4th of July in the US of A? Or is that more of a Thanksgiving or Christmas thing? Were still working on the menu so any input would be awesome!  :)

Everyone just barbecues. Steak, burgers, hot dogs, all that stuff. No one has sit-down dinners for the 4th.

Caesar salads are as authentic American as you can get.  It was possibly created on the 4th of July as well (according to the ever reliable source, wikipedia.com)!

Barbercue.  Potato salad, baked beans, chips (american chips that is, doritos, lays.  I felt I needed to add that just in case anyone thought I meant those disgusting potato wedges.   :-X)  Hot dogs and hamburgers, sausages.  That sounds like the perfect meal to me.  And now I'm hungry.  :(

If you want to get ironically American, make apple pie for dessert.  If not, make  dirty pie (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Dirt-Cake-I/Detail.aspx).  Some call it dirt cake, and stuff like that.  But it's amazing.  The online recipes don't do it justice.  My mom makes it differently.  The recipes say to put all the stuff together, but if you layer some oreos on the bottom, then cream cheese, then vanilla pudding, then chocolate pudding, then whipped cream, and then more oreos, it's perfecttttt.

Yup, sounds American. The other day, I encountered something called double chocolate cheese cake brownie. I have no idea why the store bothered with flying a flag outside.

Well I'm gonna be at my friend's house for a big BBQ celebration and since him and his family are from Chile, they will be cooking a lot of Chilean food as well as the BBQ standards like burgers, chicken sandwiches, etc. I would recommend ribs, chicken slathered in BBQ sauce, coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad, all that kinda stuff.

hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken wings, potato/pasta salad, baked beans, corn on the cob cooked on the grill - picnic food, as others have said

apple pie topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert

Sweden has better pizza and better hamburgers. Anything mainstream US always requires an extra spicing session since Americans are lame and don't know anything about flavor. Better to triple the serving size, add mayo and cover everything with the worst cheese in the world!

Fast food. When it comes to specialty stores or better restaurants, it's hot stuff. Serving sizes are insane, though, but I guess that's not a valid complaint at all.

Also, Blue Tractor in A2 has some pretty insanely good burgers, and well spiced off the grill.

I think we're going to the in-laws for the ol' barbecue. I was hoping I'd get the July 4th Oath ceremony, but I guess that one was booked. So it'll be burger day.

Never heard of it, but it sounds good. I'll have to make a trip sometime.

If you're ever in Kalamazoo, there is a place here called "Food Dance!" that has some good food.

I hate mayo (actually, I don't like anything but meat and cheese on my burgers, with the occasional bacon).  And I prefer Swiss to American cheese on a burger.

menu is looking like:

potato salad

PASTA SALAD (made by tours truly)

buffalo wings

homemade hamburger steaks

gourmet hot dogs wrapped in pastry and served with capsicum and onion chutney

apple pie



and whatever guests bring! should be a cool night. Ima get full of beer and pot and we've got fireworks to let off too.

Dude, what?  YOU ARE DOIN IT WRONG.

No gourmet hotdogs.  you take some all-beef franks, and you put them on a GRILL.  You burn them with fire until they are delicious, then you put them on a bun.  Slather with mustard and onions (and optionally chili and cheese) and you are done.  There is truly no tastier dog.

A grill is pretty much crucial for 4th of July food.

I dont think I explained the situation well enough, its not a BBQ, its the middle of Winter here and its a swanky cosmopolitan dinner party to be attended by foodies. The food is american inspired but yeah, no plain 'ol hot dogs Im afraid. Also the drinking age here is 18  :D

Organising the playlist now.... its mainly acid house and 80's groove lol

Hopefully Miller or Bud is on special too

Niiice... with the playlist! My friend will probably have his equipment up so I'm getting together what I'm gonna play, probably lots of deep house mixed into some Anjunadeep style house.
