Following the recent relaunch of the Monkey Island franchise, LucasArts is giving gamers even more old school love by bringing its classic games to Steam. This Wednesday, July 8, gamers can log on to Valve's download service and obtain copies of the following games:
* Armed and Dangerous
* The Dig
* Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
* Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure
* LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
* Loom
* Star Wars Battlefront II
* Star Wars Republic Commando
* Star Wars Starfighter
* Thrillville: Off the Rails
Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts says, "This effort is going to make it possible to introduce a whole new generation of gamers to LucasArts' classic games." LucasArts also says this is the "first round of releases" intended to "revitalize its deep portfolio of beloved gaming franchises" so we're hopeful that the company has plans to release even more gems from its extensive catalog, including such hits as TIE Fighter and Maniac Mansion.

If they put TIE Fighter up there, OMG.

Probably only a matter of time now that they've started putting their old games up.
I'm looking forward to Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Sam and Max, and Grim Fandango.

Republic Commando > all that crap

Yay, too bad I just got through playing these games this past month. I think most people who love LucasArts' adventure games already have all of these with their multiple Scumm emus.
-
Battlefront was one of the games that got me back into the hobby a few years back. Sweet
-
Well, so much for me not buying any games this week.
Well, so much for me not buying a Lucasarts game for the last five years.
Well, so much for my now slightly shorter 'Reasons to Hate George Lucas' list.

How is Armed and Dangerous? that's the only game there I don't already own in some form. It's the game with the shark gun, right?
-
Nifty new feature for the adventure games: What resolution will they run in? How about whatever resolution you're running. That work? ;)

This is like 5 years too late. People have been playing these titles on ScummVM for some time, and this pathetic trickle of 2nd tier content is not really enticing. I can't think of a single reason for them to continue to hold the games people really want over our heads. It only encourages more people to go hunt down the real "Most Wanted" titles as ScummVM roms.
I guess it's the irritating "Nintendo" strategy, where they think games will sell better if they stagger the releases and force people to wait around for the "release date" of a game that actually came out 15 years ago.

My recollection of the game is that it's a competent-at-best third person shooter. People always mention the shark gun because it's actually the only "funny" weapon they came up with. Everything else is either useless, bog standard shooter weapon, or not funny.

Fate of Atlantis is 155 MB, is it the talkie version?

If it wasn't, I'd go burn George Lucas in effigy right now.

Beneath a Steal Sky is free with ScummVM, just go to the website and download it.

It's also free on GOG.com, as standalone version that's been tweaked slightly to run on XP and Vista.
