You might want to check out Mike Oldfield. It's not quite the same, but that's about all I can think of.

Steve Roach [master of all things ambient] has an awesome guitar-heavy song called Gone West. I wanted to find a video of it on Youtube, but no dice. iTunes has a good clip of it, though.
