What do you recommend?
About whatever really.

Check out This Film Is Not Yet Rated (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493459/) and My Kid Could Paint That (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0912592/). I enjoyed both recently.

It's a good documentary - you should check it out.
This Film Is Not Yet Rated is a good look at the MPAA and all the crazy ratings nonsense.

Fucking double posts.
-
When We Were Kings and My Kid Could Paint That are both excellent but the best documentary I've seen in quite awhile is Dear Zachary (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/dear_zachary/). Glance at the reviews but just one suggestion - don't read anything about the actual story before you watch it.
You can stream this off Netflix, btw.
looks like someone put the whole thing up on youtube too.

The Fog of War was a fantastic watch. The way it was filmed and McNamara's earnestness made it very compelling.
Edit: Wow, McNamara passed away a week ago :o (July 6th)

I say this every time a thread like this comes along, but:
From wiki: Wisconsin Death Trip is a non-fiction book by Michael Lesy, first published in 1973. It has been adapted into a film.
The book is based on a collection of late 19th century photographs by Jackson County, Wisconsin photographer Charles Van Schaick, mostly in the city of Black River Falls, and local news reports from the same period. It emphasizes the harsh aspects of Midwestern rural life under the pressures of crime, disease, mental illness, and urbanization.
Pretty unsettling, though not much "story" to it.
-
Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill - guy takes care of wild parrots living in the middle of San Frasisco
For All Mankind - lots of video of lunar flights, really amazing stuff
Man on Wire - guy runs a wire between the World Trade Center towers and walks around on it for about an hour
A Brief History of Time - Stephen Hawking talking about the universe
Encounters at the End of the World - Werner Herzog talks to slightly unhinged people in Antarctica
Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse - the making of Apcalypse Now
Manufactured Landscapes - a look at industrialization, with a focus on China
Rivers and Tides - a cooky artist works with natural materials
Vernon, Florida - the daily doings of average people in rural Florida
-
I thought Dear Zachary was pretty wretched and manipulative.
-
Why We Fight
Little Dieter Learns to Fly
Man on Wire
-
Why We Fight
Why We Fight sucks because it has Gore Vidal ranting on about how the Japanese were desperately trying to surrender in the summer of 1945 before the A-bombs, if only those nasty Americans would allow them to keep their Emperor.
The rest of the movie is good, but that one scene sours it for me.

Fog of War
Seemed like there wasn't much news or discussion when he died recently. Which I thought was odd considering just how much foreign policy he influenced or so many years.
Seems like the people who's policies result in the most deaths wind up living for ages to think about it.

Hoop Dreams, Crumb,
and I have a brain fart, but there's a lot more

I saw a whole bunch of articles on McNamara's death, but then, I'd be the sort to spot that sort of thing.
And I think that's too harsh a judgement for the man.

I'll post less well known ones but don't know the name of.
One is a real dolls one- I think it should be on the internet.
Some other one about a bi guy, a gay guy and a hetero girl living in polyamourous relationship in New York- interesting as it all falls apart in the end despite regular relationship therapy sessions- children involved. What a clusterfuck.

Enron: Smartest Guys in the Room
This is ok, but I couldn't get over how they completely left out Rebecca Mark's influence in the movie, whereas she was a central figure in the book.
