Seems ok but not great. Maybe I'm getting old
-
Go back to your strategy games pops. This game OWNS.
-
im guessing the non-demo levels are better then
-
I never saw the appeal of the game either.
explosion jumping just seems distinguished mentally-challenged
-
It's just regular jumping with an explosion effect. The platforming is really solid and considering the dearth of 2D platformers recently, I am in no position to complain.
-
I want to buy it but I need points. Any deals out there? the two sites posted in the BF1943 site are gone.
I read some of the impressions on gaf and they seem distinguished mentally-challenged to say the least. Maybe it's just so good that it makes people seem distinguished mentally-challenged. Same thing happened to Braid, Flower and World of Goo, except, you know, the being so good part.
-
The deals dried up. Apparently the resellers were using fake CC numbers to get points from Amazon and reselling them.
I enjoy the game alot. The closest game I can compare it to right now would be N+, except with much longer levels and no controller smashing difficulty. There are hidden cakes in each level akin to the golden coins in New SMB. Time attacks require you to find the hidden cake and beat the time under par to maximize your score.
-
is it really alot like N+?
because I brought that and only played it for about an hour before I got bored
I might give this a chance if the impressions here remain positive
-
No pilonv you arent missing anything. The Maw is garbage and these distinguished mentally-challenged fellows think this developer is actually competent.
-
Kinda sorta. It is a flimsy comparison, since N+ is about short stages with ball busting difficulty and SM is more about longer, but easier, stages. Both games seem to emphasize obstacle maneuvering and getting past roadblocks and shit. I personally don't think it is as good as N+, nor will it have a fraction of the replay value, but I still enjoy it.

The Maw is garbage, but that is because there is no gameplay to speak of.

well that sucks
The demo was pretty fun. The little trailer at the end that shows off co-op and later levels looked great.
-
The co-op is pretty fun. You have to time jumps to fling each other to different parts of the stage to bring down platforms and the like.
-
This video is what sold me on it:

I'll probably get it later today.
-
This seems like one of those titles I'll pick up when it's on sale. Saving my points for Fallout 3 stuff, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Turtles in Time and (maybe) Shadow Complex.
-
Bubble Bobble on August 5th btw, goty

yeah, videos of later levels look way better than what was in the demo.
I would buy it if I had the points, which I don't, but I don't really mind it too much. The only one of these summer games that I really want is Shadow Complex.
actually, that video makes me think of the PS3/360 Prince of Persia game.
-
I'm up to Level 1-16 (a boss) and it's kicking my butt!
-
It's awesome, but I can already tell that it's the kind of game that I'll get frustrated with about 2/3 of the way into the game due to the long strings of perfectly-timed jumps that are expected of you.
The demo doesn't even begin to show how crazy the game gets. I'm not sure what they were thinking.
-

thanks for the confirmation :-*
-
The first boss was a piece of shit. That fight drug out waaaay to long. The platforming get really good in stage 2. There is one section in 2-3 that feels like it was lifted directly from N+.
-
I'm really enjoying it, in single and local co op. The demo levels don't even scratch the surface.
-
I looked for a specific N+ thread to necro, but there is none I can fince and since it's already namedropped here:
WTF is with the ramp jump on ep. 3-0 or 3-1? It's the first of ep. 3, with the two skater ramps. I can NOT time that jump to save my life. I can wall-crawl to flip the switch on the left, but the same technique to get to the door results in a wet splash on the level floor. I've scoped the solution on YouTube but can't time the jump. I've reviewed the motion tutorial for tips to no avail. What is the timing?
-
For a main character that's so lively, the level designs are really bland. I'm all for tricky platforming but running through sterile, metal corridors in a 2d game bores me quickly.
-
This game is AWESOME. I haven't played any of the single player campaign yet, but the co-op campaign is brilliant. It demands an incredible amount of co-operation and timing. Only play with really good friends, because you will flip out at each other.

the co-op is different from single player? do those levels have cakes to collect too?
I ordered a cheap point card last night to buy this. I'm still hoping for a deal before Shadow Complex.
-
The gameplay is the same in co-op, but you have to work together to time explosions correctly to boost your partner up to higher platforms and the like. And yes, there are cakes in co-op.
-
Any tips for the first boss? He sucks.
wait lol, it's a joke. you don't need to use the platformes to block the lasers, you can just hide in the extreme corners.

The co-op campaign and single player campaign are completely different.

Custom soundtracks. :rock

Custom soundtracks. :rock
yeah, I gotta get that going. Sucks that you can't just hook up an iphone to a 360 and play music (like you could with the ipod when the 360 launched.) Fuck Apple/MS/Whoever's responsible (i think it's apple...those fuckers)
-
iPods got blocked? That's pretty stupid.
-
no ipods work but iphones dont i think
-
no ipods work but iphones dont i think
Correct. iPhones and iPod Touch uses a different directory structure than classic iPods, thus breaking everything. Blame The Steve.
-
I'll try the demo soon. I got 250/250 in The Maw :-\
-
I just got a free one from Rlan @ GAF's tweeter page.

-
I saw in the achievements that The Maw himself features in this game. I'll probably get it, but Ive already got too much shit to play.
Need to 200/200:
Monkey Island
Phantasy Star 2
Magic the Gathering
before I get anything else on XBLA
-
I need 3 more cakes. I really pared down my cumulative times a lot in this second runthrough, even though I didn't replay every level. 3-5 in particular gets a shitton easier once you've done it.
-
The co-op is unplayable. I couldnt even get to the 4th stage with a friend because it was completely unsynchronised. :lol
-
It's trash online for sure. I tried to finish off the co-op cakes with online people and it was a disaster.
-
Does the cakes count for everyone, or just the person who nabbed it?
-
Everyone.
-
I got 3 or 4 levels of co op before the lag set in, but after that it's unplayable.
I already got to 1-7 with people in person, so I'll just have to continue that way.
-
2-11 is some epic glitchshit. Am I the only one having trouble just getting past the first bit where you have to bounce in that little room? The canister doesnt launch me over, it pushes me back out of the room.
-
I beat it... that ending was amazing. Maybe I was wrong about this game, lol. Now I am doing Hardcore mode.
-
yeah, I'll have to get this. Achievements do-able? Local co-op is fine right?
-
Yeah you can do local, the online is just really laggy and shit. Hardcore mode is pretty brutal. You have to do each level in one go, no checkpoints, one hit kills. I only have like 15 levels left.
-
goddamn hard mode aye. The Maw was piss easy to 100% so I was expecting more of the same.
-
This is a huge step above The Shit(ty fucking game)
Hardcore Mode is a pretty good badge to put on your wall.
-
:lol I didn't see that ending coming.
-
Finished Hardcore Mode. Not remotely difficult... had a choke spot a few times though due to those stupid ass flying robots that shoot lasers.
My reward? A pop up that said I'm awesome. I'll take it.
-
Did you find out what unlocks the avatar clothing yet?
-
Nothing does yet. I hope it's for Hardcore Mode, though.
-
Got the co-op cake achievement. The rest of the achievements should be a breeze. I'm going to 200 this one.
-
I want to co-op why does it have to be shitty broken : (
-
Wait, so Hardcore mode aint even that hardcore? Yeah I'll be all over this next weekend (will buy Mothership Zeta also)
-
Well it wasnt hard for ME... but you know how it is
-
yeah youre pretty good.
Bear in mind I did get 200/200 in BC Rearmed and Mile High Club etc. so I do have some skills
-
Weird thing is the co-op is just as broken as Castle Crashers'was, but no one is begging for it to be patched. I was lucky to have a pretty platformer-competent friend to help me.
-
CC had a lot more dev time and hype I guess? Also 1200pts etc. You expected a quality product
-
I just played using 2 controllers by myself up to 1-9 but this beginning bit has me I think. It was fun while it lasted.
edit: nevermind, i beat it
edit2: ok yeah 1-11 requires 2 people at least
-
I'm surprised you made it as far as you did.
-
The ending is absolutely brilliant.
-
Got it, this game is pretty tight! I really enjoy the humor in these Twisted Pixel games. Splosion Man himself is crack up.
Yay Splosion Man
-
the ending was pretty sweet!
Only got like 3 cakes left to get too.
Gonna rock Hardcore mode soon... I can see it being a controller throwing excercise :lol
-
I've been stuck on 2-6 hardcore for about 3 days.
-
Im sure its not as bad as Super Hard in BC: Rearmed. Probably my favourite achievement Ive ever unlocked. That was a serious nut buster.
Im gonna 200/200 Splosion man! There will be DLC no doubt...
-
I got all single player cakes with no help from tips or guides 8)
Collectibles done right!
-
fuck Hardcore mode would be a cakewalk if it wasnt for those stupid flying laser bots. Im stuck on 2-6 now also :(
I'm gonna do it though!
-
Might as well post again since im the only rube stil playing this
-
lol, 2-6 is the magic number it seems. It took me a bit for that too. Just relax and take your time, it will come.
I'm waiting for the patch for online... if they will even make one
-
I'm assuming they'll release content at some point, theres a "download content" option in the menu, and since the pics and theme are unlockable theres nothing there lol. The Maw was pumped to 250 so I'd assume there will be new levels and shit. Hopefully online will get patched with that too. I dont think any of my friends IRL have the platformer chops required to beat it co-op... I might try next time I have a visitor
Will make 2-6 my bitch tonight
-
Well get your ducks in a row, Scenester. I'm back on XBL time now that vaykay's over, and this weekend we can finally shore up some co-op achievements in some game or another. Saints? Mercs 2 finally? Let's figure it out.
-
sounds awesome - yep we need to mop-up my Mercs 2 suff (hopefully 20 mins tops) and Im totally down to help you with more Saints 2 stuff (whatever you wanna do). Also I need to blow through 50 Cent as your co-op partner for those achievements too... and again if you want 'em :)
Im just keen to get back into some 3d action games after my XBLA glut.
(ps. is the Mercs 2 glitch where you fly over the collectibles easy to pull off? I hope to 1000 the game eventually)
-
(ps. is the Mercs 2 glitch where you fly over the collectibles easy to pull off? I hope to 1000 the game eventually)
Stupid easy. All you have to do is find 30 or so, then save/re-load and fly a chopper over them. They will re-register. I'm not sure the logic behind keeping those numbers though, because it doesn't save all of them. I found about 60 or so legit, and then kept flying over them, sometimes by accident. At the end I had 120+ of the 100 items.
The Baby Billionaire thing is easy with the winching challenge glitch. After about the 50% completion mark, you can bump the bet past its limit by doing the challenge without break. In the end I was betting like $30M. And there's also the winching glitch itself where you fly straight up, release the package, then fly away as fast as possible: once the package leaves Havok's perception area, it stops falling, is considered to be at rest, and the bet is won.
-
I give up on Hardcore mode. :'(
