Title: Windows 7 is sexy!
Post by: The Fake Shemp on July 23, 2009, 03:18:19 AM
I feel like my PC can multi task where it couldn't before - if that makes any sense.  I told Prole it used to hang on a lot of stuff, but a clean install of Win 7 is what the doctor ordered.

I wish the animations on the taskbar preview stuff were just a little quicker (or you could configure it -- maybe there's a registry setting or something?).  They're not horrible now, but I feel they slow me down a bit.

On the RC, my taskbar disappears sometimes, it leaves me with only the Start button. Pretty annoying.

I think it mostly happens after the screen saver, which doesn't work either. Sometimes it magically reappears again.

Now that you mention it, I've seen weird taskbar behavior too with the thing getting "unlocked" (so it's not always on top) spontaneously and having to re-lock it manually.  I don't think this started happening until recently, maybe it's a side effect of some update or some software installation/configuration?

I think I've seen this before -- isn't it just Aero that dies for some reason?  You can just restart Aero from the control panel, you don't have to reboot the whole system.

The control panel selection is called "Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects", btw.  searching for Aero apparently calls it up

I saw that once via the action center in the beta build.

edit: just ran the windows performance score and taskbar previews got fucked, finding problem with aero didn't help so my guess is that this is related to ati beta drivers.

Yeah, I had weird (and jarring) glitching with the previews too until they pushed out an update to my video drivers.

The only issue I've run into is something about the file structure being corrupt. It happened as I was unpacking Photoshop CS4 for installing. This setup I've got going now hasn't given me any issues though.

I have to say that I tried the handwriting recognition in W7 and it's fucking amazing.  It can read my writing better than 90% of human beings can.  It's also totally useless to me of course since I don't have a Tablet PC, but hey.

This is a much better browsing and operating experience than Vista.
