Fuel
filter PUMP apparently. Hopefully it doesn't entail too much of an expense to where I can't buy my replacement machine.

It depends on where the fuel pump is in your car. Some are inside the gas tank and can be expensive if they have to drop and drain the tank to replace it. Others are in the engine compartment those are easy and cheap to fix.
What kind of car?

save yourself some money, buddy.
Do some net research and do the repair yourself. It is not that hard even if it is in the tank and you'll save an assload of money. If it is in the tank, it can easily cost 500 depending on the shop. Buy a 12 pack, spend 60 bucks (at most probably) on your pump and take the day to do it (after some internet research). if you can, get some friends to help.

Don't know what kind of car you have...but some Japanese cars you can access the fuel pump in the gas tank by lifting up the back seat.....made my life much easier on an early model Nissan Stanza and Honda Civic.

Mups is right - a lot of things are easy if you know how to turn a bolt in the right direction. This is most likely one of those jobs and as Arde0 said, it may involve just lifting the back seat, undoing a few bolts, and the fuel pump assembly will lift right out.
