On June 5, 2009, Custom Firmware 5.03GEN-A for HEN was released, which is compatible with both PSP-2000 v3 and PSP-3000. It allows users to play game backups (ISO/CSO), PS1 games, and includes access to PSN, VSH, and recovery mode.[27] This marked a major step forward in ending Sony's PSP-3000 piracy protection. Two days later, on June 7, 2009, Xenogears and Becus25 released Custom Firmware launching software called "Custom Firmware Enabler 3.01" which utilizes modules extracted from 5.00 M33 and the recent 5.03 GEN-A.[28][29] Currently, CFWLeader is on version 3.60 and several improvements have been made.[30]

might get another one if this is legit, need one for lunar and whatever japano game gets localized by then.

It's been hacked, yes. I bought a Rock Band PSP-3000 just because of this. I keep my PSP charging when I'm not using it and I keep it in sleep mode so I don't have to re-do the process of putting my PSP into chickhen mode to get to the CFW.

Is it true Dark Alex stopped updating the CFW?  I know someone else has stepped up, but the recent firmware (5.55, I think) has not been cracked.  I want Soul Calibur this month and I know Namco is gonna use that FW.   :-\

Dark_AleK only updates when there are significant features. Lately there's just been minor update (in his eyes) so he doesn't give a shit, even when the PSN Store blocks running newer games.
I installed the 5.50 GEN-B, or whatever, on my PSP-1001 and it's fine.

But the big issue with the later motherboards is that without kernel mode access, we can't write to the firmware, so the hacks are always temporary.

I am going to buy it, doofus.  It won't run on my CFW PSP because of the newer firmware that the game requires.

Everything's running well on GEN-B for you?  I've read some stuff doesn't work right or at all.
