Frag I think it's because they expect to gain experiences in college that will guide them. In retrospect I think it's wiser just work and travel some instead.
College is indeed a scam, but it's going to take a good 20-30 years for employers to realize that a college degree really isn't necessary for a lot of jobs. Until then it's like a rabies tag-if you want to be in good standing and have a chance at a decent job, you really need one.

Maybe it's retrospective or just my experience since I was workin' HARD SCIENCE, but I cannot recall a period in my life where the world was more insular than college was. I worked myself to death to pay for school and room/board , studied all the time,and when I could no longer stuff shit into my head, played a lot of age of empires.
