This is the Mansfield Reformatory. An old state prison that has been used in movies like Shawshank Redemption, Tango and Cash and countless other music videos. Now its used for tours and Halloween gimmicks.

Cool building. I've always appreciated how even the most utilitarian buildings back in the day were built with style.

Have you been there ToxicA?

Yes, I worked a fund raiser there before. Pretty cool/creepy place. What gets you is how small and cramped everything is. It was built around 1900, so people werre a bit smaller back then and architecture reflects it.

The glass box in the Sears (now known as the Willis) Tower.  Great way to kill a couple hours!  Well, besides the huge lines to get in. Sure, it's the most popular thing in the city, but it's worth it on a clear day.

Yea, I'm sure you see a lot of that since they've been around forever. Seriously, I was in 3rd grade and my ideal future boyfriend wore Sambas.

Is this in Orlando/Kissimmee? If so, I bought 3 pairs of shoes next door in 2004 and still own them. Couldn't find those shoes anywhere, and they were in a huge bin there for $20/pair.

Got this via twitter - it's my current desktop. It's the view from Mori Tower in Roppongi, Tokyo. You can spot an abandoned roller-coaster on one of the roofs!

Just read about that abandoned roller coaster.

Quote
In 2005, Don Quijote began building a 'half-pipe' roller coaster on the roof of its eight story Roppongi store. Roppongi is a heavily populated area in the core of Tokyo, and many residents and businesses were upset with the idea of having a roller coaster in their neighborhood because of the spectacle, noise and crowds it will likely create. The project was completed in 2006 but due to increasing pressure from concerned groups in the area it has never been operated. As of 2009, the structure still exists. Don Quijote has not announced what future plans they have for it.
