Title: Monocle Bore: Classical music
Post by: Don Flamenco on August 18, 2009, 10:18:20 PM
So i'm listening to this Stravinsky I got on demonoid (Symphony of Psalms), enjoyed a Liebestraume vid that someone posted on here a while back, and was digging some Astor Piazola earlier (i know, not classical, but the album Zero Hour has a lot of movements and stuff that remind me of classical.)   Pretty sure this means I'm getting close to 30 and that I'm a nerd.

if anyone has any other recommendations, I'd appreciate it!  avant garde and small ensemble stuff would be great.

Don't listen to recursive.  bartok's string quartets are shitty.

Dvorak's 9th all the way!  Also patrick cassidy is awesome.

I can say anything I want now that I've trashed Saint's Row 2.

So I'm assuming you like stuff from the Romantic period?  Russian most notably?  I'd say give some listens to the Five, Mussorgsky especially.  Tchaikovsky if you're really into nationalism.

all I listed is all I've listened to, so I'm not into anything yet :)

I like baroque music mostly.  Stuff like Vivaldi's Winter and Summer say.

Pachelbel's Canon which everyone knows (and most people are sick of) is baroque. Hard to find a good version since it's been mutilated to hell and back but I love it.

All rather easy-listening stuff.

I like classical guitar stuff too.

I love Toccata.  I can only imagine playing a giant organ and belting this out.

When you're used to hearing the squeaky horrible sound as people learn and practice, truly great violin playing really hits you in the face like a brick.  A very nice brick.

I could also pay my way across the world by fiddling. Everyone loves a good fiddler. Oh well! Some more jams to assuage my regret.
