Damn, I'm sick of the noise my vacuum makes. Do any of you guys know if they make affordable silent ones?

SPACE

Yes.
In all seriousness, they were actually developed in the 40s, but housewives felt the lack of noise meant the vacuum cleaner wasn't doing its job. Similar to how shampoo and soap lather are basically useless, but only serve to help us ''feel'' cleaner, when the truth is that lather doesn't make you ''cleaner''.
In my research both Dyson and Miele offer vacuums that are considerably more silent than conventional ones, but they come at a premium price.
Don't step on my dream, dammit!

What's the point of a silent vacuum? How will that scare my animals?

Wait, what?
-
Look into the saponification process. Lather is actually the effect of the suds mixing with dirt and oil. It is not the cleaning agent itself.
-
So uh, I shouldn't be using shampoo? ???

Shampoo and soap clean, but think of lather as the effect of the cleaning process. It is not the primary cleaning agent.

I just googled "lather". So that's what it is? The stuff people use to shave.
I never use it. Actually, I just go wet, or put some shampoo on it.
-
I have never heard before of someone using shampoo to shave with. How does that work?

It smooths the shaving. And cleans your face too. Lather seems useless.

I was under the impression that the foaming soap lifted the dirt and germs while rinsing off the foam washed that stuff away. I swear I read that in a very recent article in the WSJ
As for vacuums, Dysons are well worth the premium price. My wife and I received one as a gift a few years ago and the difference was like night and day. It is still just as noisy though, which I don't mind, but apparently some people do :-\

I didn't notice my Dyson being any quieter, but it is totally kick-ass. My nose would often get a bit runny at home and after I got the Dyson I realised it was because the old vacuum cleaner was leaving dust behind.
It's clear a man invented that bagless thing because it's perfect for us manly lazy types.
