DIE SUN, DIE!

:omg

Thank god the sun no longer has any bearing on our global temperatures or we would be experiencing a very cool summer.

May 2009 was the second hottest May ever.
June 2009 was the second hottest June ever.
July 2009 was the third hottest July ever.
I don't think "cool summer" means what you think it means.
-
The ocean temperature is also one of the warmest on record.

This is what happens to the sun under an Obama administration. /Foxnews :smug

Oh, you mean since the 1960's when accurate, complete records were finally being kept?
Hey, I wonder what anomaly could have affected global temperatures (which up until May were the coolest we had seen in quite some time)?

Oops

global temperatures (which up until May were the coolest we had seen in quite some time)?
That's not true at all. Six of the eight months before May were hotter (http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/tabledata/GLB.Ts.txt) than the same month in the previous year. Just like it's not true we're having a "cool summer".
How are you botching this basic stuff? Are you really Beardo, and you hacked TA's account?
-
2008 was one of the coolest years in recent history. What a convenient data point to use.
Keep cherry picking, Mandark O'Reilly.
The above mentioned period of this year was the 12th warmest on record (IIRC).
-
Fine. I'll compare them to the decade, rather than to just the year before.
Average temperature for this decade, by NASA: .636 C above the 1951-80 global mean.
Eight months before May: .648 C above the 1951-80 global mean. Not a single month under .58 C anomoly.
We weren't going through "the coolest temperatures in quite some time" up until May. That's just not true.
-
Backpedal.
Did Diablos hack yur account? hurrr

THE TITANS ARE AT IT AGAIN, WHO WILL PREVAIL?

You said we're having a cool summer. It's not true. Then you said we'd been having unusually cool temperatures up until May. That's not true either.
I'm not exactly sure what I'm meant to be backpedaling from, or what your point is.

Revisionist. Supporter of corporate interests.

If you say "moving the goalposts" I think that makes BINGO.

Mandark! Flawless victory!

This is about how I figured this thread would turn out. TA, while a mostly nice and sometimes reasonable conservative dude, has two fatal achilles heels: a rabid refusal to believe in AGW and a weird, inexplicable Newt Gingrich fetishism.

Anecdotal evidence:
This has been the coolest summer in NY that I can remember. I saw 90+ degrees twice in May and only 1 other time since then.
Last summer was brutally hot in comparison.

Maybe up by you, but down here it was pretty intense... especially with regards to the humidity. Most of July - Aug was about 90 degrees with insane humidity, although the previous months were very cool and it took a LONG while for it to warm up.
-
Are you down in the city?
-
I don't know about cool summer, but I know about cruel summer.
Bananarama. Who's with me?

Yeah, the temperatures didn't go past 100 too many times this semester here in L.A. At least compared to last year anyway.

FUCK THE KNICKS. It's been hot here. Like super hot.

itt we make the amazing discovery that short-term weather fluctuations are stochastic and vary by region
-
The weather has gotten significantly colder since last August when I moved to Winnipeg. Maybe the weather is colder because I moved to a colder city or maybe the Earth is getting colder! Who's to say? The jury is still out on science.

Well, some scientists believe this and some don't. There really isn't enough data to say conclusively which side is true, and further study is needed before making any rash decisions.
-
, and further study is needed before making any rash decisions.
Unlike the activity of man quickening the heating up of the earth. We can already declare that a fact. No need to take our time on that one.
-
Why would you want further study when you've as much as said that the entire profession of climatology is a fraud? If you can't trust what the scientists tell you, what could possibly be gained by more research? It would just be further dishonesty.
Let's be honest. No amount of time would be sufficient for you until they came back with the answer you want to hear and no amount of time is going to provide that.

Mini-Ice Age cometh! Fortunately I'm acclimated to the cold weather (North East represent). California'n life longers gonna squeal.
Edit: Jesus, this thread is longer than I had thought it was.
