Misleading title.

Should read, "Facebook/Twitter free to anyone that actually uses their Xbox for gaming."

Oh lord, there's a GAF thread, and who started it?

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=372467 (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=372467)

Sigh.

Seriously, why do people use such fucking useless arguments.

Its part of the Xbox Live SERVICE, which you pay for. Its included in the package. I pay Bell for my internet at home, and I have them as my service provider for my mobile, I should be able to surf for free!

If you don't want to pay for it, don't use it and move on. Why the fuck do people complain about such stupid shit.
People love to complain about stupid crap.  Either don't use LIVE or get a PS3/PC if you don't want to pay for online multi.  You have a choice.  And of course MS is going to add more features to Gold.  They want to incentivise the service they actually make money from.  Do people think these companies are charities?

pretty much what rman said

its not like they just copy pasta'd social networking into xbl

if you have you have an xbox plugged into xbl 24/7 you should have gold anyway

if youre like me and dont have an ethernet connect around and are waiting until fall/winter to get a wireless dongle and you have silver you wouldnt care because you cant conveniently get on live anyway and you wouldnt give a shit because you dont use social networking anymore anyways

That's fine.  And that's because the Internet is an open platform.  The 360 is not.  MS is the gatekeeper and they're sure as heck going to try make Gold look more attractive to push its adoption.

It's going to suck anyway.  it doesn't seem like people are taking it a step further-- why on earth would you want to use these on XBL?

"lol im plyng sm halo rt now"

Both Facebook and Twitter are free on Ps3 and Wii - platforms which have an internet browser.

Shame on you, MS.

Should read, "Facebook/Twitter free to anyone that actually uses their Xbox for gaming."

If you use these apps you arent interested in gaming. Same goes for Netflix.

I can't imagine anyone old enough to work in the work force being naive enough to want to link their facebook with their LIVE account.
Imagine when an employer looks up your name online and easily notices the person looking for employment is named xXticular_CancerXx (or something equally as juvenile in the employers eyes) plays games ALL THE TIME.

Or when an employer can check your facebook and realize that the employee took off work to play the latest & greatest game release.

Checking facebook from LIVE is one thing, but linking the two sites is just a really bad idea.

The world isn't binary, you know. You can dabble in both!

Oh I'll remember this quote  :D

On the down side, I don't subscribe to XBL. On the plus side, I don't do Facebook. So it all works out.

This makes sense, you haven't got any reason to spend a lot of time connected to the internet with a silver sub.  Certainly, the gold members would be more likely to have those little text pads or headsets (IDK if facebook or twitter support voice chat).

I'm just pissed off about the demo delay for silvers.

People shouldn't be using Twitter and Facebook anyway.  MS deserves a pat on the back for this and Manabyte deserves a kick up the ass for the misleading thread title.

What a shitty incentive. They're increasing the 'value' of Gold by adding social network features you can get for free almost everywhere else. What a shitty and uncreative solution to 'fixing' Gold.

I'm fine with MS charging for Live; I don't know what this exceptional PSN service is that you mention, because all my friends with PS3s -and- 360s state unequivocally that XBL is the superior implementation. With Live's Party feature you can chat with a single friend, or a group of friends, all of whom may be playing different games. You can then take that Party and move it into a game of everyone's choosing. With PS3 you can't even get System BGM and voicechat going at the same time, can you? And there's no "let's take this into a game" feature, right?

What kills me though is that MS gives Live Messenger up for free on Windows (and Mac), supports text, voice, and video chat for free in them, but in the XBL implementation voicechat and videochat is only available for Gold, and if you have two people at one location who want to be in on the videochat, all the controllers with headsets have to be logged in with Gold accounts. If you log someone in with a Silver account while a videochat is in session, it will end the video chat.

In short, MS charging to support other people's stuff which is free on Windows doesn't bother me so much as not bringing their own free stuff to XBL, and not broadening Gold features to "anyone on this 360."

XBL is such a shit service compared to Steam and PSN I don't know how you guys can defend that shit that costs money.

Because we have the money. What's your excuse? Fgt

Why would you want to use either of those on your console anyway? They're just shit that looks good as 'community' type bullet points for their dumb fuck shareholders.

Have you guys actually seen pics of the interface? It's integrated into games and shit, and not garbage games from Mindjolt.

I'd rather have this than see features removed from Silver. Who cares?

And XBL is most certainly better than PSN.

anyone claiming PSN is better than XBL besides using the "it's free" cop out is delusional.

who cares if these things aren't free anyway, play some games
