Title: Network problems SUCK.
Post by: Great Rumbler on August 30, 2009, 01:59:15 PM
The new version installed yesterday and it doesn't work. Period. It acts like it can't even connect to the internet for some reason. Up until this latest update it worked just fine.

As a possible remedy, I uninstalled Azurues and then redownloaded it. Didn't fix anything, the problem still persists.

Anyone know how to fix this or about any other good torrent programs that I could use instead?

Windows = uTorrent
OSX = Transmission

I haven't used Vuze since before it was called Vuze, so I can't help you there, sorry. Are you sure you're using the same port?

utorrent or bitcomet.

Why the fuck aren't you using utorrent?

Azureus was the first one that I came across and it worked okay, so I never got around to changing it. Now seems like a good opportunity, though.

Edit: Got utorrent. Still doesn't work.  >:(

Stop stealing you dirty poor

It's not stealing, I'm just borrowing.

And I think it's a problem with my LInksys router not allowing it to connect to the internet.

Check if your uTorrent port is properly forwarded at www.canyouseeme.org (http://www.canyouseeme.org). If not then head over to www.portforward.com

I'm about to tear my hair out here. I never went through this much headache before, but now, suddenly, I'm having to jump through hoops to get something to work that worked JUST FINE for several years up to yesterday. Okay, I tried to mess with the router to get it to allow the port that utorrent uses, but apparently I need to set up a static ip. The only problem with THAT is that it seems only to work until I turn my computer off, which isn't too useful since I turn my computer off every day.

Is there anyway to see a list of ports that are open on my router?

I don't know how to check other than just looking at the port forwarding page in your router config. (http://192.168.1.1) CanYouSeeMe works fine for checking individual ports, though.

Just a note for any other Mac users: Transmission is the most OSX-like bittorrent client, but a lot of registered trackers do not allow/recognize it. If you have trouble connecting with it, use BitsOnWheels instead.

Okay, so I got the point where I needed to set up a static IP. I went through the command prompt to get the numbers I needed and then input them into my network's properties. Then I hit "OK". My computer crashed hard and went to blue screen. Epic Fail.

Anyway, I'm done messing with it for tonight.

lmao. Did you try resetting your TCP/IP stack as detailed in the forum post that I linked above? If that didn't/doesn't work, then I have no clue what to tell you. I guess you could always try uninstalling/reinstalling your network drivers or reformatting as a last resort.

I feel your pain, though, I spent a good 2 weeks trying to figure out why my wireless download speed drops to 150kB/s after a few minutes of connectivity before I just gave up and decided to live with shit internet. I hate networking bullshit so much

I installed utorrent on another computer connected to the same router. It worked just fine the very first time I started it up.

Sucks to be someone.   :lol

If it works on the second computer, I'd just run it there.  Then you have your main computer to do whatever it is normal people do on computers.  I haven't used my computer for anything more than a TV in a few years.

I guess that's what I'm going to have to do to. I've already tried everything I can think of to get torrents working again on this computer and have been met with one failure after another.

The two computers are on the same network, right?  You could always just have the program running on the computer it works on, but save the files across the network to the other computer.  Or, just do like I do, and have a folder for running downloads on a external drive shared to your network.  I just started a 122GB torrent of Adult Swim a few days ago, and I fear I'm about to fill my 1TB external.   :'(

I finally fixed the problem by reinstalling Windows. I was willing to leave it alone since it was just torrents and I could download those elsewhere, but then it brought the hammer down on the copy of Mirror's Edge that I just purchased. Apparently, any new program that needed internet access was being completely denied somewhere. Reinstalling Windows fixed that, but now a lot of my stuff is messed up and I've spent the past 4 or 5 hours getting everything up and running again.

Computers suck. I wish they'd all just explode so we could go back to banging rocks together for amusement.

I still can't get my router to work with either my pc or my xbox.  Directly connecting my xbox to my modem doesn't work.  I CAN'T PLAY MY FUCKING XBLA GAMES WITHOUT BEING CONNECTED TO LIVE.  Why?  Because my xbox red ringed and I never transferred the fucking license to the new xbox.  Why?  because I've never been able to link my gamer tag to my windows live account for some unknown reason.

So to sum up.  When I tried to buy Defense Grid today I was unable.  When I decided to play some old xbla games instead I was unable to.  Fuck this shit.    Why does this have to be so fucking difficult?

I said something like, "Hey, I fixed my network today too. The power cord for my modem shorted out and after I replaced it everything was fine." And then right after I posted I went to do a speed test only to find that my shit's still busted :lol

Why?  because I've never been able to link my gamer tag to my windows live account for some unknown reason.
I has this problem when I made a new account a few months ago. Eventually it went through somehow, but since then I have yet to successfully sign into messenger from my 360.

A friend had this issue, and it turned out the 360 had saved his previous network setting, and it wouldn't let him connect as a result. Have you tried going in the dash and wiping the settings/switching it to automatic detection?

It was actually a pretty decent one back when I bought it (like 4 years ago).
