Title: R.I.P. Shenmue III
Post by: Himu on December 12, 2006, 02:05:25 PM
There was a recent Shenmue III campaign where the BBC asked Sega for an actual answer as to what Shamoo 3's status was - dead or alive. Previously all they said was "no comment" or "We'll see..." but this time there was an actual answer.

Let's see how it turned out.

Quote
First and forth most I'd like to thank all the fans with this Shenmue campaign as Sega isn't. Rab Florance from Videogaiden was in contact with a member of Sega staff and the news is not good.

"Despite any rumours, Shenmue III is not at any stage of development, and is not in Sega's plans. "This is hardly an official statement, but I can tell you that despite rumours to the contrary, there is nothing in the works for Shenmue III. However, SEGA is aware of Shenmue's position and the special place it holds for fans, and we would never discount the possibility of doing another one.

There is no Shenmue 3 in the works because Suzuki-san is too busy on Shenmue online and will be for another couple of years at least. There is every possibility that he would want to do a Shenmue 3, but the general feeling is that it won't happen in the next 3-5 years; or until SEGA reaches it's current business goals - That is to become a top 3 publisher.

I'd tell our fans not to give up hope- but not to hold their breath either"

Sega a top 3 publisher.  :lol :lol :lol

RIP Shenmue

I really tried giving Shenmue 2 a fair shake on teh XBox, but it was just so poorly designed.  The localization was one of the worst I've seen since Enix games on the SNES.  And whose brilliant idea was it to not have analog controls?  Good job, Sega.

You could have analog controls. You go to options menu.

The DC version is much better.

Was that in the Xbox version?  It was like a year ago I tried, but I swear I looked everywhere for control options.

I should replay Shenmue 2. Haven't played it since it first came out.

Yeah you go to the options menu, there are three control configs if I remember.

Dpad + L trigger to run (Shenmue 1 controls)
Left Analog stick (allows to walk + run)
Right Analog stick (allows to walk + run)

I really found the xbox version to be subpar overall. They added glowing effects at night time that don't suit the game at all, a horrible blur during fights that make them almost unplayable, first person fights (which were awful), not to mention the English voice acting.

The only thing the xbox version has over the DC version is the camera, the extremely MINIMAL texture upgrades (water), and better load times. DC version as a whole, for some reason, felt like a better effort and I really enjoyed that game a lot.

You might as well ask for a sequel to Waterworld while you're at it

Whew.  That's a start.  You can further impress me by pooping on a copy of ICO and taking pictures of it.
