I've been researching a lot of the military aircraft as of late, and my question is there any definitive evidence to point to the F-35 JSF fighter as being not as good as billed (as rumored)?

I don't know if there is any real evidence, as that evidence would really have to be gathered by months of proper field testing of the final craft (which to my knowledge hasn't happened yet). Personally I was never awed by the fighter and think it's one of those designed-by-committee sort of muckups.

I just read grumblings that in mock trials, that old Sukhois were able to take them down.
Also, what's to prevent similar maintenance costs that afflict the F-22 Raptor?

Quiet, you!

My opinion on the JSF would be too biased to give you any sort of useful information, sorry.

Feel free to give me any information - I'm like a sponge!

Exercise could help that.

The F-35 is a multirole aircraft, so I guess the "Sukhoi able to take them down" comment could be in straight up dogfight manouverability. It's not an air superiority fighter, it's a CAS/strike fighter. The F-35 instead relies on electronic IR sensors to maintain full control of all targets and missiles around it, I think there's some Northrop Grumman quote where they said "manouverability is irrelevant" with this aircraft.
As for the maintenance costs, the F22 stealth material is far more brittle than the one used on the F35. Think so

But isn't it true that the Army would take the A-10 over the F-35 any day for CAS?

Heh, I dunno, of course the A-10 is a workhorse and a pretty awesome CAS plane, but it is single-role and HAS NO PLACE ON THE MODERN BATTLEFIELD WHAT WITH ITS INFORMATION SHARING AND SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AND HOLY SHIT WHAT ELSE
