Which means that for everything below severe injury I was on my own. Need a course of antibiotics for strep? Even the "low-cost" clinic nearby was $65 just to get in the door.

We were talking with a friend who's been here a while and had some kind of sinus disorder. She went to a Ear, Nose and Throat doctor here in Korea. She explained that he gave her the works- Cameras up the nose, some kind of test, an x-ray thing etc etc. The total bill? $7,000 won, about $5.75.

Right before we left Mary had to go to the doctor. Since we don't have sub-standard, socialist, slow-ass medical care in the US, we only had to wait 3 hours. After visit and perscriptions? Nearly $400. And she's still sick- We couldn't AFFORD to go back.

We had to get a full work up here for our Visa. 40,000 won, about $30.00. It took maybe 30 minutes from the time we walked in to the time we walked out. X-Rays, blood work, visual, height, weight etc etc. Boy, this socialist single-payer system really blows, yeah? Where's the wait? Where's the obscene bill?

A reminder to all of our American pals and family members: There's still a debate raging in Congress. It has unfortunately been hijacked by an insane and manipulated minority. Matt Tabibibibibibibibib, who can be a blowhard, does a great job of breaking it down on his blog.

Call your congressman. Just because you HAVE insurance doesn't mean you WILL ALWAYS have insurance. This American Life recently did a heartbreaking episode on 'Recision', or when you go to use your insurance and they say, "LOL haha, no". Private Insurance options only work for the extraordinairly wealthy. Help America to join every other developed nation in the world. Block out the buzz and do your homework and demand some serious change.

As for me, I'm just glad I don't have to be terrified about getting sick anymore. And I'm glad Mary and I can finally afford to get her sinus infection cleared up. It's insane that 2 people who worked 50+ hours a week couldn't afford to see a doctor. They had to get on a plane and cross the ocean.

I just stuck that on my blog. This shit drives me BONKERS

The video? "LOL, Americans" might work nicely. It's just tasteless and uncalled for to be heckling the man for wanting to ask a question in another language, but then it's not surprising. It probably would have been translated immediately, too. I have no idea about the Bishop's English speaking level, but if it made him more comfortable to speak in Spanish, what is the big fucking deal? People really don't know how hard it can be to come to the States as a non-native speaker and try to get acquainted with the language.

EDIT: Okay, watched the end (had previously cut it off before). The guy on stage did translate what the Bishop said, and afterwards, everybody APPLAUDED HIM. What the fuck, seriously?

Absolutely if you are buying the insurance yourself or are self-employed.

The US is totally jacked. If my wife had cancer, it would cost less and she'd get better care flying back to her country of citizenship (Belgium) than she would get here.

Anyway, the system is pretty much broken. They say that if you can afford it, it is some of the best health care around. However the costs are absolutely insane. Seeing people work their asses off for 40-50 years saving a nice retirement nest egg only to have it all taken out from underneath them with a couple of surgeries is a total joke.

If we can't get the public option, we need a thoroughly comprehensive reform that will reset those costs to reality.

Think about it this way. People working 40 hours a week on minimum wage don't take home $300 a week. Then think about how many people work in retail, gas stations, and fast food places. All close to minimum wage jobs.

Your dad must have a great job to have $15,600 a year taken out of his paycheck. Probably double the amount than any taxes taken out.

I was reading an article that said in Japan, an MRI costs $98 whereas in America, it's $1500. :usacry

And these fegs have the nerve to call out Obama for wealth redistribution.

You might have full coverage for lots of stuff, but have to pay for your eyeglasses and perscription lenses out of your own pocket, or dental care, or viagra/birth control.

and yes, that is the norm for America, that is, until we become the socialist utopia that the Messiah, I mean President Obama, is working towards subverting the country towards.
