Title: [WDYB] Keep up, dirty poors.
Post by: Reb on September 08, 2009, 01:42:06 PM

Bought this, plus a leather cover, for the heck of it.
I loaded it up with 160 free books, plenty of reading for the foreseeable future!

Oh yeah, and this one on Blu-ray:

I bought a new battery for my car on Sunday. My prior battery (of nearly 8 years) red ringed.

Rebiak take that e-reader back and wait for the one Kosma posted. I messed with that Sony one at work the other day and the interface felt way too slow to me (changing pages/menu items), almost unbearably slow.

Ah, the second piece of the set of pitiful beings I'd not volunteer to have: a dog.

While unlike the first piece, a child, the dog will never ask you to buy it a car or fund its way through college. On the other hand, the child will eventually learn to clean its own poop. Odds are slightly higher for your child than your dog that you'll need to one day bail him/her out of jail.

Unlike a dog, raising children is quite rewarding.

Canada/North Amerika

Quick impressions of the ereader:
- Quick boot-up
- Slow loading
- Perfect readability
- Software looks suspiciously like iTunes

About the eeeReader: it's only a concept for now, nothing is known about the screen type.
And if it turns out to be awesome, I'll buy it as well, ha!

I caved in and bought Muramasa (again; have the Japanese version) and Metroid Prime Trilogy after trading in some crap to Gamestop.

With these and MadWorld, that's pretty much it for the American Wii games I'm interested in.

The screen is pretty small, a bit smaller then a pocket book. It reads very nicely though.
It should work ok with text books, but the touch screen version might be more useful, bit bigger screen, plus the ability to make notes and highlight text.

Dunno... I prefer the ices because they're (even the ones made from cream) lighter to me than ice cream. Good way to cleanse the palate.

Today I bought: perscriptions for sinus infection medication :P Perhaps a Wiipoints card to buy Contra.

I've made the two biggest shame purchases in a good while.

1) a Razer product.  Granted, the shame from the tacky "FOR GAMERZ LEDS EVERYWHERE FUCK" style, but I wanted a good lightweight pair of headphones for computer use (I have HD 595 I use, but for longer periods, like when I'm on my computer, they start to get uncomfortable).  I heard the Carcia..Carchastas..something that begins with C headset was good.  I found it cheap, and it's pretty nice.  The mic on the headset isn't too great, but the headphones have good sound and are extremely comfortable and light.

2) Gretsch Duo-Jet Beatles Rock Band controller.  Between having no fully working Rock Band/Guitar Hero controller and playing a lot of Beatles Rock Band, I eventually decided to get it.  It's actually really great and the best guitar controller, both in function and performance, but still...shit was expensive even with discounts and stuff.  And it looks so nice.

ha, found out that vista 64 doesn't support a2dp stereo bluetooth, so my $40 headset won't work on my republic of gamers laptop

apparently vista 64 supported stereo bluetooth at some point, but some genius decided to remove that functionality during one of the umpteen-thousand updates, so it only works on the 32 bit OS now

they sound great paired with my ipod touch, though

apple wins

There's a zipper on the back so I can just unzip the top/head off to be able to drink. No comment on getting laid.

after reading all the reviews and such, i returned my 8GB ipod touch and got my money back, then bought a new third-gen 32GB

with the increase in processor speed, 4x the storage, voice control, etc. i think it was worth the extra $100 - after playing with it for a few minutes there's a noticeable increase in speed (comic pages load and zip along much faster, the dexter game i bought has less loading and the framerate took a big jump)

i'm happy with it, although itunes still sucks and chugs

Just ordered the Memento 2-disc edition from a somewhat-unreliable place that had a good price - fingers crossed they have it/can get it.

Actually didn't end up getting Timeshift because Amazon e-mailed me that their supplier it shipped through (for $13) actually didn't have the game, lol.  So they auto-cancelled the order and are selling it through them now at $20.  I'd think they would have been nice and given me a copy at the $13 price, but I guess not!  So I think I'll pass on Timeshift for a while and grab it next year when it's near $10 again.

Today grabbed:

I actually have the discs/floppies sitting around here for The Dig, Last Crusade, Fate of Atlantis, Dark Forces.  But the Steam deal is cheap enough that it's nice just having them all available digitally without having to find the cds.  Plus I never played Jedi Knight II or III and I don't remember if I ever finished Loom, so I wanna run through that again.

No one wants my trash, they just want my water. I live right in the middle of Seattle, homeless people wander around at night and free water is free water, I guess.

One day I caught some independent painters using my hose to wash out their paint buckets. I got all "get off my lawn" crazy old man on their asses.

Isnt Distant a major librul? Seems the grass isnt always greener :smug

Yeah, that librul guilt is sinking in, but I'd rather not enable junkies. Shit, I've found used hypodermic needles in the grass while mowing before. If it was just people stealing a drink of water from time to time, I'd be cool with it.

We also suspect that the cheapass landlord who owns the house next to us has been using our hose and water for the last six months.  :lol

The city of Seattle also recently put up "No Parking 2-5 am" signs underneath the I-5 overpass by our place. Homeless people used to park their RVs and busses and live there, but they can't anymore or they'll get towed/impounded. I was accosted by one of them the other night cause they think we called the city and got them kicked out since we're the only non-renters and we've got the big house on the corner. Hell, they've been there since we bought the place and I've never had a problem with them as long they're not shooting up in my yard.

I bought a refurbished 8gb Ipod Touch from the Apple Store for $150. I've never owned an iPod, mostly due to it being a toy for social status (I owned a Creative Zen M for a few years), so it was a difficult decision. I was holding out for the Zune HD, but after reading all the reviews it seemed that its now what I was looking for.

I hate this new system on eBay where you post a maximum bid instead of just the bid you want then. I got all worried that I'd lose I set my max bid to $75. Right now it's at $61, I'm hoping it doesn't escalate any further. I could walk away with Einhander and SOTN for $65 shipped, and that ain't bad. It's the price of a new game for two of my favorite classics in great condition.

Raban, have you considered buying a PS3?  You can get both of those games for like $10 a piece off of PSN.  $75 is almost a third of the PS3 price!

But if you want to buy some PSX games, hit me up with a PM and let me know what you are looking for.  I have some titles I still need to sell.

Sorry, gotta clarify-- Japanese PSN.  But it's easy enough to make a Japanese account to purchase it.  700 Yen IIRC.

EDIT: Just checked...600 Yen!  There are a shit-ton of PSOne games on J-PSN.  22 shooters alone.  They also recently started offering PC-Engine games.

It's a snap.  And if you don't have a credit card that it will accept, just go to pretty much any conbini and purchase a PSN code there.  You can get them in 1000, 2000, 3000, 5000, and 10,000 yen increments, IIRC.

That's not how you bid on Ebay. You wait until the last minute, place a maximum bid, and then be prepared to place one more bid in the last 10 seconds. If you have a set strict highest bid, you just make your first bid in the last 10 seconds. Bidding ahead of time isn't good for anyone other than the seller.

Didn't you see my thread asking what I should get between a PS3/a budget PC/a Wii? Yes I've considered it, but it's kind of left my mind. And IIRC making a JPN account was a complete pain in the ass, and I'd rather have the game in english w/manual and such. I'm not going to mind it if I get my ass outbid at the last second, I'm kind of hoping, but part of why the cost is alright is because it's a complete game, not just the disc or some stupid shit.

I dunno, we're gonna find out in...Three hours and change. Also PM me a list of your PSX games.

EDIT: HOLY SHIT @ those New Balances. Want. Are they out in America/what's the line called apart from 999?

The pack is called Feral Creations and is a collabo with LeftFoot (Malaysia) and Mita Sneakers (Japan). It released on 9/9/9. The "Lion" and "Mouse" styles are limited to 660 pairs worldwide so those are probably gone already. The "Crow" and "Peacock" (which is the one I have) are not as limited and should be gettable in a good sneaker store near you.

TLR is amazing. You will not be disappointed.

How can you with music like this-

Maybe you should go play that pussy Persona instead, I hear it is perfect for limpwrists like you.

I actually bought it because you said it's awesome and you also liked Lost Odyssey which I liked (I think you did anyway).

It's going to be my first foray into Square RPGs since FFX made me dry heave.

Its not Squares fault Asian males look like that until they hit 30. I thought Square was fagging it out too, until I went to Asia.

Sure there are some tough looking Asian males, but most of them are skinny and small. And all the ones that "are good looking"  look really feminine.

I don't mind the designs so much, it's more the whiny thing that I'm not so keen on.

Still, I'm pretty pumped for TLR all things considered. :hyper

Yeah, they were something else, back in the day. Those Jedi games were awesome, but they never really managed to transition to consoles. When they had several IP making a comeback at one E3 (2005? 2006?) and then announced them as canceled 3 or 4 weeks later, it was clear that the house was in disarray. I suspect Sith.

It's still going to cost you time, and it's not a very good game. The first one was pretty tight, but the linearity in 2 is entirely transparent, and the story doesn't hold up well at all, thanks to clichés and mediocre voice acting.

I do it for the furigana.

The latest Zelda on DS has a really nice furigana feature where it reveals only when selected with the stylus, on demand. It's almost like studying. Speaking of studying, since you have an iPhone you should bag Japanese Flip, a flash card app for kanji.

Did they ever get playbalanced? I'm taking it from your current-player reaction that they are still unbalanced as hell.

There's players here you just gotta be near a city I guess.  There are hobby clubs all over.   :-*  Edit: are you in the US?

Yeah Necrons are brutal, they need a new codex (like every race except SM).  That stupid we'll be back rule is so gay, along with REGULAR TROOPS being able to get a glancing shot on a roll of a 6. smh.  IG just got a new codex along with space wolves (coming out this month).  Blood Angels are getting a new one soon along with Tyranids in january.  Then I think maybe necrons and/or dark eldar.  Oh, Orks just had a new codex come out about a month ago.  So I guess Tau, Eldar, Daemonhunters and Chaos need one now.  If they could all be updated for 5th edition and balanced that'd be killer.

Yep, Japan. There may be clubs and stuff in Tokyo or Kobe, but not near where I am in south Osaka. Anyway, I sold my figures before moving here 8 years ago, only keeping a couple which a friend had painted for me. Even now whenever I'm stateside, I'm drawn to the GW shops, despite the annoying, almost "groping" approach most of the store staff seem to make on anyone who seems interested.

I bought the Explorer mouse about a week ago and while it was sex the scroll wheel made may say fuck it and stopped using it.

it scrolls without stopping like your regular optical mouse, while it doesn't make any noise I still can't use it for image browsing (posted a thread on gaf but none replied: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=375370 ).

and if this one is the same as the explorer mouse then how's the arc?

The mouse is a Microsoft Wireless 5000, its big selling point is that it's BlueTrack, so it can be used on any surface. The scroll wheel is very loose and imprecise, actually one of the main things I don't like about it. The Arc, on the other hand, has a much tighter wheel that clicks along as you scroll, which I prefer. Be warned though, the ARC may take a little bit of getting used to, given that the surface where I'd traditionally placed my thumb and ring-finger while holding a normal mouse simply aren't there on the ARC due to it's design. Now that I'm used to it though, it's a great mouse, especially as a portable/laptop, but if you're into mice with a ton of advanced functions for say, gaming, you may want something else.

nah, i'm not into gaming, just regular surfing and image viewing and yeah, blue technology is nice and all but this new noiseless scroll wheel is bullshit.

and i dunno, i got used to the explorer mouse's heavy weight pretty quickly so the arc shouldn't be a big problem as long as the scroll wheel works like you say. i'm getting it as soon as i get some money, in just a week.

thanks bro.

they want $19.99 for an annual membership, but use coupon code GIGAMER (i think, lol. it's in the gaf DS thread) and you get one year free. can use one 10% off coupon @ amazon per day (games/accs. only lol). haven't checked out the other benefits yet though, but the coupons work.

Tuesday is my b-day, so I splurged and spent $30 on classic games to add to my lifelong digital collection

and I got this cause it was $2.99 and I played the demo on a gaf link a while back and it was neat:

Also got my Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 in the mail yesterday, woohoo.  Can't wait to play it.

I wish Under a Killing Moon was on Steam. Always wanted to try it.

Buy it on GOG, add it to your steam list of games?
GOG is better than Steam for a lot of things when it comes to classic games and they're the only other DD company I have zero regrets when I buy from them.

Steam positives:
+Playtime is added to your total gamer time on your profile
+Your friends can see exactly what game you are playing
+Easy to just double click on an owned game and get it up and playing in a few mins
+Auto-patching

GOG positives:
+Games are tested and made sure to to work on XP and Vista (steam is up to the publisher; see Jedi Knight issues)
+No DRM, can download as many times as you want and it's just a rar or something you can put on any computer
+Bonus features:  Sometimes you get the soundtrack cd, full color original manual scan, wallpapers, etc...

Pricing is the main determining factor of where I buy classic games for the most part.  Like I never bought Abe's on GOG because even on sale they were never $5 for both like this weekend's sale on Steam.  OTOH, the Fallout collection was cheaper on GOG and had all the cool bonus features.  I just check both sites for deals and pick up whoever has a good one.  They're both great sites and it's worth giving GOG a chance.

I play ALL my games in Steam regardless of where I purchase them.  I like having 1 list (my steam list) of all installed games on my system.

I haven't bought anything in a while so I picked up two CDs. The new Dethklok album and Kings of Leon's newest CD.

Pics later (this week, no internets) because I'm on the train

-PS3 power cable because the people in the nihons apparently don't like grounding their shit the easy way
-multiplug

and this is where shit gets real...

I bought an HDTV earlier (all j-bore laugh at me now because I copped it at yodobashi and was probably skullfucked out of my mind with the shitty deal) this week, so I had a fuckload of points to buy shit with. So naturally I bought the dark knight because it was on my list and I needed something awesome tto watch on my tv... BUT THEN I wasted ¥3000 in points on ff7 advent children complete because I wanted to play ffxiii. FUCK. I still have around ¥35000 in points left though, so I guess I'm set for the year on games.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
PS so much for the "I'm not a weaboo, bitches!" thanks, ffxiii

I'm considering buying a 16GB iPod Nano. Is it worth it?
