Confirming years of rampant speculation, Sega today announced the next-generation Dreamcast2 entertainment console for worldwide release in Q1 2010. This marks Sega's first return to hardware manufacture since the original Dreamcast was discontinued in March 2001.

TFLO2 resurfaces as Dragon Quest Online
Level 5 revealed earlier today that their upcoming True Fantasy Live Online 2 will undergo a massive retooling and emerge later next year as Dragon Quest Online. The decision was announced at a joint press event in Tokyo hosted by Enix's Yuji Horii and Level 5's Akihiro Hino.

StarTropics 3 moved to DS Next

Phantasy Earth breaks 5 million
Phantasy Earth, released early last year on the PlayStation 3 and Apple iPlay, has managed to sell over five million copies worldwide. The game surpassed the 4.6 million copies sold by Bungie's Marathon: Phobos, cementing it as the previous generation's best-selling title.

Nomura’s spinoff studio shutters
A sad note was sounded in counterpoint to Sega's triumphant return as earlier rumors on Japanese message forum 2ch of studio Nomura Heroes' closing were confirmed. In a statement, studio chief and founder Tetsuya Nomura cited a lack of product diversity beyond the ailing PlayStation 3 as the primary cause for the studio's shuttering.

Vagrant Story 2 available on PSN
Sony has finally made Vagrant Story 2 available for download on the PlayStation Network. This PS2 game blew the open-world "sandbox" genre wide open when it first came out in 2003, combining strong narrative and multiple player characters with open-world gameplay and dynamic mission objectives. Mega Man Legends 4 passes 3 million sold
Capcom USA released a press release announcing that Mega Man Legends 4: Volnutt's Legacy has passed 3 million in worldwide sales. "All of us here at Capcom would like to thank our fans for their unflagging support of this franchise," said Billy Berghammer, president of Capcom USA. "Please look forward to Mega Man Legends 5: Bots, Drills, and Rock and Roll and The Further Misadventures of Tron Bonne from Capcom in 2010."
From Software has announced that Chromehounds 2 and King's Field: The Seventh City will be available at launch.
