About the other game, I'm honestly surprised that Ninja Theory was given a second third shot after Heavenly Sword.

Looks good

Hope it has more to do than the first game. Good game, just missing something.

It missed mission variety. The repetitive missions fucking sucked.

But I liked the game.

Same.

Yeah, that's the probably the only bad thing about the game. You're doing the same shit ever mission.

nevermind NT is multiplatform now

Quote
We had to travel all the way to Scotland to bring you the world-exclusive details on our latest cover story. Crackdown 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to one of the Xbox 360’s first breakout games. We’ve got details on multiplayer (four-player co-op and 16-player competitive matches), the dark new story and much more. In addition to that, we’ve got the first details on Ninja Theory’s new game, Enslaved. The Heavenly Sword developer is going multiplatform in this post-apocalyptic journey, and Game Informer Magazine is the only place you’ll hear about it. All that and much, much more is available in the October issue.

I was going to buy it no matter what, but that's super sweet. I don't know what they're hyping about "dark story" though. Who needs a story? Just gimme a sandbox.

Why are people surprised at 4-player coop, its old news....
Anyway thanks to some GT nerd, details from the article

Quote
-Dynamic Civilian Events (Example: A man trying to sell something in the day, getting marauded in the night. And the Agency will put up signs saying "play dead when you see an Infected". Lulz ensue.)

-Support Points are gone, Agents can now call in for ammo and supplies anytime and anywhere.

-The game looks much more detailed and grittier, but still keeps the "cartoony" look we all love so very much.

-Vehicles like Trucks or Buses have room for a mounted turret, which makes them great for getting around in Co-Op.

-More variations in weapons, meaning people have more to choose from than just the homing rocket launcher.

-Most of the civilian cars in the game are the same, but reskinned and armed with armor and weapons to survive in the new hazards of city life.

-The Cell (a gang) is composed of ordinary citizens just wanting to reclaim the city from your team (the good guys). You take them out, and reclaim their turn for the Agency.

-More instances where Co-Op play is prudent.

-The city hasn't changed in architect, all the roads are the same. Some buildings have been demolished and other small things, but over all it's the same city.

-You'll obtain skill orbs by using abilities relevant to your character.

-Four player Co-Op

-16 player Competitive Multiplayer. Tons of fun. Players collect special weapons, bonuses, and gadgets. Progression system like CoD4.

-Melee attacks are much more varied a fluid.

-Key to the City DLC is a go!

-The freaks evolve over time, making them MUCH more fearsome as the game progresses.

-All repetitiveness is completely removed. And less shitty boss battles.

-Doing missions in the day or night has a huge effect. At night, the freaks come out to play.

-City decays over time from the infection.

-New Agency helicopter and other vehicles. All old Agency vehicles returning.

-A lot more weapon variety. New powerful shotgun, Rail Gun, and sticky grenades.

-More precise targeting system. Skill is rewarded.

-Much more defining detail in all aspects of the game.

That's all I'm putting up for now. After I read it thought, I'll get the rest up.

NEW INFO: Backstory

Okay, so we all know after Crackdown 1 we defeated all 3 of the gangs, and we were congratulated. "Peace at Last" it said. It couldn't have been more wrong. As the Agency took over, things went to hell. A new zombie-like virus had broken out in parts of the city, and the Agency was doing a poor job at covering it up. People found out, got sick of the Agency's bullshit, and revolted. The civilian gang called themselves the Cell, and soon after the revolted, they destroyed the agent program, almost completely crippling the Agency. But now, they've fixed it, and it's time you take the city back in a 3 way war.

probably has something to do with the mutants that shai gen doctor was creating

i can see it being pretty cool - during the daytime you're doing your regular crimebusting, and at night you have to deal with the creature element on top of everyone shooting at you

can't wait, 16-player agent battles knocking each other across city blocks :hyper

It made the Prototype world even more ugly than usual and made me not want to explore it anymore.

i dunno, i kinda wanted to see a new city, and some sort of resolution to the first game's ending

i despised the ending of the first game - i tried to play the role of actual good guy, and in the end it felt like the game kind of spit in my face

A stronger narrative and some interesting side objectives would be welcome. For as much fun as the basics of Crackdown were, it's was pretty damned thin.

Just keep it free, open, and fun.  I love Crackdown because I can just explore and kill punks with rocket launchers and drive cars off buildings.  As long as they don't constrict your freedom to further a narrative I'm excited.

I was hoping for some resolution to the ending of the first game as well. But fuck it, story was the least of my concerns in the first game I guess. Just so long as I can jump 6 stories into the air and kick badguys across the street I'm set. :punch

yeah, that's how I feel.  I like infamous just as much as Crackdown, but you can't jump into infamous and have fun.  The way I've been playing Crackdown was turning on keys, bulking up, putting on some music, then rushing through and killing people.  No waiting for the introduction or set piece battles or cutscenes, just right into the action.

They already mentioned that it had keys to the city coming, so hopefully that also removes any of the narrative or structure they try to put in.
Title: Re: Crackdown 2 GI cover
Post by: duckman2000 on September 10, 2009, 09:22:44 PM
Still think they could include a stronger narrative while keeping the sandbox bit accessible and fun. Most important is the inclusion of enemies with special powers, and it seems as if that is already a lock.

I would like to see some refinement to the way the character moves. Nothing that changes the fundamentals of the moveset, but something to make the transitions and moves feel more natural. Automatic leaps over small obstacles, more twists and turns, and so forth.

Mentioned this elsewhere, but chain jumps would also be neat.

wtffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

There goes my entire excitement for the game.  That'd be like if Vice City took place in GTAIII.  The whole fun of sandbox city games is the BRAND NEW CITIES TO EXPLORE; I can't believe they are just upgrading the existing city.  Terrible.

Every sandbox game has given a new city/island each game.  It's the standard.  The article says same city, same cars, new action, new story.  I dunno, seems like a "let's save resources" decision.

If Infamous 2 is set in the same city I will bitch about that too.  Same thing if Batman Arkham Asylum 2 is set on Arkham AGAIN.  These games are about exploring new environments.

Also your example is balls out awful. Vice City is not called GTA3: Vice City - it's GTA Vice City. It signifies to you, the goobtard, that this GTA in fact takes place in VICE CITY. The same goes for San Andreas. This is called CRACKDOWN 2. Not Crackdown: Vice City.

So you basically hate saints row 2 then?

I like SR2 because I never played SR1!

Let's put it this way.  If GTAV reused GTAIV's city with upgraded visuals and a new story/weapons/gameplay mechanics (sorta like the GTAIV expansions) in order to save costs instead of making a whole new 3 city GTA, would it be ok?
Title: Re: Crackdown 2 GI cover
Post by: demi on September 16, 2009, 02:01:31 AM
But it WONT. Why do you assume they are just gonna plop the same city there? Crackdown's city will be different in terms of design. It will be Pacific City but it wont be the SAME buildings you hopped on last time.

To be fair to Bepbo, the examples they showed looked damned near identical to the old versions. I'm hoping there are more blatant changes elsewhere in the city. Then again, opening up the underground for exploration could make for quite a bit of new space.

Yeah, I'm just going by the 3 comparison shots in those scans.  They are the same buildings with a few graphical changes; but gameplay-wise climbing them and driving around them would be the same.

Actually, it would be more akin to them taking GTA Vice City, and then making Vice City Stories. Which was fun.

Or it may be like Saints Row to SR2, where the city gets some additions, but the gameplay has been turned up a few notches and the graphics are better.

But, hey, have fun not playing the game. I'll try and put how much fun I'm having in it behind spoilertags for you when it comes out.

I've just lost that OMG CAN'T WAIT MARKING THE CALENDARS!! hype with that article and now it's more like "ok, will give it a play when it comes out and see if it's good".  Since Crackdown is my favorite game this gen, it was my most anticipated game coming out; maybe the next trailer or article with more info will get me back on the hype train.
