It is not nearly as funny or clever as Cody and Karyn Kusama evidently think it is and it telegraphs its intentions too bluntly to be scary.
Jennifer's Body substitutes hipster credibility for emotional currency, confuses pop-psychology insight with substantive social commentary, and measures terror on a scale that ranges from the word boo to a dead spider.
An unoriginal and mostly unscary horror-comedy from, surprisingly, the pen of Diablo Cody.
While not exactly lifeless, Jennifer's Body sure could be fresher.
Director Karyn Kusama and star Megan Fox seem uncertain if they’re satirising the conventions of teen gore-fests or simply catering to their core audience’s expectations.

how is the violence?

Not really.
Cheebs am crying on keyboard.
-
Where is Cheebs? I haven't see him in a while, or did he just change his avatar?
-
He stopped posting after every thread he posted in would result in someone talking about his mom chauffeuring him to Borders and drinking lattes.

What's the early conssesesus on the NUDITY?

Kids in Mind should have their content review up sometime next week.

What's the early conssesesus on the NUDITY?
It was confirmed awhile ago that they cut the only scene Fox was topless in.

I just wanted to make fun of Great Rumbler's spelling.

surprise of surprises

There. I fixed it, just for you.

sooo... it's better than we thought?
-
Diablo Cody wrote a shit movie? Do bears shit in the woods?

I got more entertainment from this thread title than I would have gotten from the movie.
-
not a surprise
horror and romantic comedies have the highest crap to watchable ratio of all the genres
-
Better than Juno? Sounds like it.
It does have Megan Fox in it as a sex-crazed demon, whereas Juno did not. Nothing more needs to be said really.

I found Ellen Page to be hot, in a girl next door way, whereas I find Megan Fox to be hot in a programmed to be hot way. I didn't really like Juno that much though. Little Miss Sunshine was the best of the Fox Spotlights.
-
Sounds like it's better than Juno because after that point, you can't really go anywhere but up

What a surprise, a shit writer working with one of the shittiest actors in Hollywood in the hands of an equally shit director churns out a shit movie. I'm glad Diablo Cody's dumb ass is following the sparkle and fade route in Hollywood, when she somehow ended up doing guest commentary on the Spaced DVD I thought she was cementing her place in movies as a cult whatever-the-fuck, but thankfully that is not the case.
-
She's not down and out yet. She's still pretty "hot" in Hollywood. This might take away some of her clout, but if there's anything Hollywood loves more than a down-and-outer, it's a comeback story.

Early audience conssesesus:
Meh.
$2.8 million for opening day, that's with 2,700 screen, compared to $6.4 million on opening day for Drag Me To Hell, with 2,500 screens.
:bow Sam Raimi :bow2
:piss Diablo Cody :piss2
-
Drag Me to Hell was also released in the midst of blockbuster season, as well.
Theaters are a dead zone right now, I'm kind of surprised it didn't pull bigger numbers. Horror usually does pretty well in August and September.
-
Why do people even bother seeing dreck like this?
-
The same reason teenagers have paid to see bad horror movies through the decades:
Tits + Gore = PROFIT!!!
-
I wish this meant we'll never see Diablo Cody again, but I sincerely doubt it.
-
Nah, one under performing horror flick won't destroy her career.
-
It's a fun premise -- a twist on the usual girl-in-distress scenario of the standard-issue horror film -- enlivened by Codyspeak.
Wow
-
Codyspeak? God dammit.

Wow
Well that settles that. Not that I was going to bother watching the movie anyway.
Diablo Cody will be around for sometime because she was a stripper who has brains! Go grrl power!
-
No, because he wouldn't have a career.

Yep, even Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is only going to pull down about $25 million this weekend, with virtually no other kids movies in sight.
Jennifer's Body looks like it's on track to the be the worst-performing horror movie of 2009 with a major release.
-
Let's be honest, was anyone expecting this to be a good movie???
-
If Diablo Cody was a dude, nobody would even give a fuck about him and Juno would have never been greenlit, let alone (undeservingly) win several awards.
-
Is her first name really Diablo?
Why not Asmodeus or Azazel?
Is she at least hot?
No, it's Brook Busey.
No idea.
No.
-
Glad too see it fucking tanked I hope this means people will stop greelighting her God awful projects. By the way, does anyone really believe Megan Fox can carry an entire film? Hopefully this tank will ruin her too.
It won't. She's got another year or two until they move onto another younger, hotter actress to salivate over.
-
EDIT: [Insert stupidity]
Maybe this is all psychotic paranoia, but I felt I had to elaborate on the feelings this movie, and movies like this, evoke in me.
