Title: Community
Post by: TakingBackSunday on September 18, 2009, 01:46:42 PM
Anybody watch the pilot last night?  It has Joel McHale and the Russo brothers (of Arrested Development fame) working on it, and it was really good for a pilot.  Really interested to see where it goes from here - if NBC was smart (and they aren't), they'd shitcan that awful Parks and Recreation to air after the Office and put Community on at 8 or 8:30.

:bow Joel McHale :bow2
:bow John Oliver :bow2

That's actually a very popular set up amongst business types.  I have a broker friend who has a similar set up.

iPhone/Personal, Media capabilities, and Web Browsing
Blackberry/Business, texting and email.

Yeah I'm watching it right now on Hulu.  The complaint I have is Abed, if that's how you spell it.  Guy's Dwight-kind of annoying.  Chevy and Joel are great though.

Yeah, Chevy is good, as expected. And the verbal fight around the table was amusing, but I can't stand the brit (feels more like an advanced Eric Idle impersonator than a character of his own) or most of the remaining supporting cast.

Doesn't a good portion of this board of Asperger's?

Just the Nintendo fans.  It's an epidemic in that community, really.

It was pretty ok, "great" maybe for a comedy pilot as these things can take time to find their groove

Since most pilots suck and this one veered from "eminently watchable" to "outright good" I actually kind of have modest hopes for the series.

...plus that one chick looks like Elizabeth Shue!

I REALLY  like the characters, but the comedy needs some work. That said, the segment in the Spanish class was fantastic.

This and Modern Family are both new comedy shows that I find funny.  Along with Flashforward, I have things to watch on TV now.  What a strange feeling.

also, new seasons of Always Sunny, Office and Peep Show just started.  So many good things to watch.

It's a show from the UK.  It's on the 5th or 6th season I think.  I don't know how to describe it well, but it's focused around two roommates, one who is incredibly awkward and aware of it, the other who is incredibly awkward but thinks he's awesome.  A lot of the show comes from them just thinking about certain situations.

This show really isn't that funny.  It probably won't even make it through the season.

The best joke between both shows is from Modern Family.

It was the other way around for me. First episode had me ready to write the show off, but the second seemed to have a little more going for it. Can't stand the main character, though. He's like the human embodiment of that "Dreamworks smirk" gag that's been running around the net.

He feels very engineered and smarmy, the Dolph Lundgren of comedy or some shit. Everything about the twit seems optimized for a Youtube format.

Joel is great on The Soup, and he was funny on Almost Live! back in the day (Seattle-based sketch comedy show). Community sucks, though.
