Title: God, a good hardboiled egg is heavenly
Post by: BlueTsunami on September 22, 2009, 09:10:50 AM
Work out the timing so the white part of the egg is very soft and the yolk is not runny (which would make it soft boiled) but just to the point where it looks undercooked, yet still holds its form. I can pop these things like a Friday night boner.

If I bring the eggs to my room, shit smells like rank booty  :'(

I'm afraid though. I usually eat hardboiled eggs every morning and have become used to the smell. I hope I don't smell like eggs when I leave my place  :-\

last hotel I stayed at had a nice breakfast spread with hard boiled eggs that were delicious.  They were perfect.  It was gooey but still stolid.

my experience with deviled eggs is usually making one, eating it, then being upset because all that work led to two bites of deliciousness.  Then I do it over again.

Eggs :rock

Blue you eat eggs nearly everyday? I always assumed that wasn't healthy lol, due to the cholesterol n stuff

I'm not really well read on that debate but from what little I've gathered there seems to be those who say that its bad to eat all the time and others that say its harmless. Guess I'll find out when I turn 40  :-\ . I mainly eat eggs due to how easy and quick it is to prepare. Good amount of protein too.

The latest research states that the cholesterol content in food does not have as big of an effect as people thought in the past. It's really the general saturated fat and overall caloric intake.

One study I recently read about had two control groups on limited-calorie diets. One group ate a copious amount of eggs, the other did not. Keep in mind that one egg yoke contains over two thirds the amount of recommended cholesterol (300mg) for a day. The two groups showed similar reductions in weight and blood cholesterol. Reductions. The cholesterol in the eggs had no effect.

If you're not eating healthy overall? Watch out. Otherwise, enjoy your eggs.

Usually I only have one egg plus some other things for breakfast.  And egg whites aren't bad if you cut them with at least one yolk, so like, two whites and one yolk.

my power source in the morning is a single piece of chocolate (one of those mini ones they give on Halloween) and iced tea.  Somehow makes me survive, sometimes, 12+ hours of school on 4 or 5 hours of sleep.

I love how eggs have been attacked for how dangerous they "possibly" are and yet its found that processed food is what's really killing us slowly (not surprising at all).

Actually it is not an abortion.   :tophat

An abortion would assume the egg was fertilized to begin with.  Hens lay eggs roughly on a daily basis regardless of whether they are fertilized or not.

Now you may say, "Ok then, you're eating the chicken's period."  Closer but not quite.  During a monthly cycle females shed the uterine lining that develops over the course of the month to receive a fertilized egg.  If it is not fertilized the uterine lining is shed which is what a period is.

So, blue, eat away!  :cookiem

Pretty much. But then that goes for every food these days. Watch out for that base food that we have been eating since the dawn of time! This processed version/newly invented supplement is clearly much safer and better all around!

oh god how do i make potatoes like thatttt
Title: Re: God, a good hardboiled egg is heavenly

Line a pan with foil. Coat it with a bit of olive oil. Chop up around 6 small red potatoes and put them in evenly. Season to taste/throw a few herbs on it. Stick it in at 375 for like 20 minutes or so, then just keep checking them so they don't get burned.

Are those mushrooms mixed in? They look like mushrooms.

After they've been in for 15 minutes or so, dice up some mushrooms and get a small saucepan, cook them up using oil, pam, or butter. Doesn't take too long. Keep on low heat, once potatoes are done, mix it all together.

Garnish?

Potatoes are easy.

I sometimes cut up a potato into half inch thick circles and pan fry them (in butter) for breakfast (as a compliment to eggs in some form). Potatoes are so damn good.

And quoting for the next page

What about larger potatoes? I don't have any red ones  :'(

I cook mine at 375 for 40min and they just come out soft. The only way I get them to look like in the picture is if I grill them on top of the stove

edit: I've never lined the pan with foil though. I usually put foil over the pan
Title: Re: God, a good hardboiled egg is heavenly
Post by: BlueTsunami on September 23, 2009, 12:23:41 PM
Putting foil over them would probably steam them instead of more direct heat. I do that for chicken (cover them with foil so thy're very soft and then broil them to crisp the exterior).
Title: Re: God, a good hardboiled egg is heavenly
Post by: Akala on September 23, 2009, 12:25:38 PM
I really only use larger potatoes for baking whole. Small red ones usually come out somewhat crispy for me.

Potatoes are cheap, do some experimental cooking! Either try a higher temperature, or bake them long enough to soften the insides some, and then take them out and pan fry them on really high heat.

Even failed attempts taste pretty good!

Akala/Tsunami :bow

I just got done cooking dinner: a hamburger, potatoes, and some vegetables (cut up carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower). With the potatoes I cut them up into squares and cooked them in a pan with tin foil on the bottom, 400 degrees for 40min; at the 15min mark I put some onions in. They came out fantastic. Seasoning (garlic salt, seasoning salt, black pepper, italian seasoning) tastes great on them. The bottom of each slice is nice and crusted; I'll try it for 30min next time.

This is officially the new cooking thread!   :lol

PD - Those are onions in the potatoes.  I'm thinking they're russet potatoes - just the plain old cheapos so I think you're fine.  I usually just toss them in pan with butter and seasonings on medium high heat for about 20-30 minutes (depending on how big you cubed them) or until the potatoes are cooked through.  Seems that's what they did with the potatoes on the side of the benedict.  They probably used a griddle though.

Today I made moussaka:
