Title: Windows 7 only $30 for students
Post by: The Business on September 23, 2009, 01:40:51 PM
This is a pretty good deal.  I'm a Mac user but I'm going to use this to finally run bootcamp or parallels or something to catch up on some PC gaming.  I mean $30 bucks for a legit version?  Good play, Microsoft.

I heard that all you need is a college email address to get the discount.

I imagine that would be difficult for someone who does not attend a university.

My sister is at college, I'll make her buy it for me.

Oh well, I still have a Vista disc lying around here somewhere, I'll just upgrade from that after I wipe off the 7 RC in a couple of weeks.

I guess I'll snag the 64 bit one at some point then.

unless there's some loophole to keep this cheap.

I imagine that would be difficult for someone who does not attend a university.

My sister is at college, I'll make her buy it for me.

And yet, not difficult for someone who had graduated from a university. :spin

...you don't need to be on Vista Home Premium to do the installation, right?  It can be any other form of Windows...?

They gave student Office 2007 Ultimate AND Vista Ultimate. Sucks they did this with 7, but hey it's cheap.

Mac users:  Since this is a digital download, how will that work with bootcamp?  Is it better to spend the extra $13 to get the actual disc?

Nah, I downloaded the RC iso and key during the beta and just burnt it to a DVD, worked fine that way.

And I'm alright with having the Home version, I don't really need the XP stuff.
