Exactly, the money is in the software, not hardware. EA's business doesn't really stand to gain from such an arrangement, as it could cost them sales if they were made exclusive to one platform (although EA's shareholders might not care, depending on the premium a buyer would pay). Microsoft would benefit to a degree, as EA games exclusively on a Microsoft system would no doubt increase their marketshare. However, they would still have the huge initial outlay of cash/stock to make the acquisition happen, and they would know they wouldn't get all of EA's software sales because some of the consumers would stick with PlayStation and Nintendo anyway.

The only real endgame is to put pressure on Sony to do whatever it takes to keep EA, which would mean including Microsoft software on PlayStation, thus ending the hardware war (between MS and Sony, at least), since Microsoft would rather not be selling a box anyway.

(An unreal endgame would be forcing Sony out of the hardware business themselves, then licensing the "Xbox" platform to whatever electronics manufacturers that would like to take it on. The result is the same thing, Microsoft doesn't have to make the box.)

Uh, the whole point of owning a PS3, other than the media stuff, is to have access to the proper exclusives. I doubt Sony would survive it, but that was a dumb argument even by your standards.

Doesn't seem very likely though, seems like it would be a pretty bloated pick-up, especially if the goal is exclusivity.

True but most people bought PS3s for the 3rd party exclusives that are increasingly making their way to the 360. Outside of Gran Turismo, there isn't a 1st party Sony game that most Sony fans feel that they "need".

EA has been good. With the exception of Mirror's Edge, their games are timely and good versions (Mirror's Edge PC was great, but came out months later). They also still put weight behind Command and Conquer (RTS games) that are meant for PC first; Microsoft didn't bother putting Halo Wars on PC. Plus, a lot of EA partners are PC first types of devs, like Crytek or JOHN CARMACK or the guys doing APB or Valve. They even let Bioware make Dragon's Age, which is supposed to be a throwback to their old PC games ( :-\). Mass Effect 2 is also same day as the 360 version.

Don't give a shit about the PS3 or Wii support, but let the PC be. Kinda want them still on DS for Henry Hatsworth 2, and iphone and PSP for various games.
