The next Age of Conan/Warhammer Online is out. They'll be consolidating servers by Christmas.

A big guild from my WoW server left to play Aion awhile ago, I've heard a few others might as well. Ultimately the game will probably burn out once most people lose interest and head back to WoW

Oops wrong forum.

People will lose interest once they die and wonder where hours worth of EXP went. :lol

join a low pop server, dipshit.

Why was this thread moved to the gaming forum? I demand that all threads concerning pay chat clients with pretty GUIs be moved either out of gaming or to their own non-gaming forum, with all of the Nintendo related threads.

Word is that it's like this on pretty much all of them (http://news.zergwatch.com/2009/09/23/hope-on-the-horizon-for-aions-server-woes-ncsoft/).
Blizzard wins again

Didn't WoW have really awful server issues like these too? The game seems pretty popular(I never heard any of my friends complaining about this is War or AoC) and I' sure they'll add more servers.
People LOVED WAR and AoC at the beginning and said they'll add more servers.
It's a grindfest with exp loss. It won't be popular here for long.

NCsoft has told Eurogamer that little can be done to stop Aion overcrowding as new customers flood the live servers, causing lengthy queues that last hours at a time.
"This isn't a scenario that's likely to be repeated regularly since it's really just about that initial rush of players trying to gain access to the game," a spokesperson for the publisher told us.
"These next few days we will be calculating data and weighing the ideal time to open more servers. I think that the community will understand how important a healthily populated server in a game with PvPvE is, and that we do not want to go down the low-pop server path."
Aion headstart access began on Sunday, and sagged under the immense wait of 400,000 pre-order customers piling in through the door. The MMO launched proper in the US yesterday, and full European access starts on Friday.
Worryingly, NCsoft makes it sound as if playing this weekend may be a frustrating and off-putting experience.
"We have preparations in place but there is some weathering of the storm that needs to happen," the spokesperson added.
"As players start to purchase the product and the initial first-day excitement calms down, I think you will see better queue times and a better play experience."
Queues, the ultimate grind
WAR only had queues for the first week or two. I moved from a high pop to a low pop server just after launch to avoid queues. They added a few more servers the next few weeks and the low pop servers stayed that way and there was never anyone around. Fucking stupid.

You do know that they added tons of high level quests for the US release so it's really not grindy at all anymore, and that you can pay money to get your lost exp back?

:lol I meant in-game money, geez this isn't Maple Story.

Everything labelled as a WoW-killer is going to suck, doesn't matter how they market it, price it, how big the budget is or how it fixes everything wrong with WoW, Blizzard isn't going to lose that userbase, ever. Maybe when WoW 2 comes out, otherwise it isn't happening. Especially not to a shit dev like NCSoft.

What type of planning goes into the launching of an MMO? Were their estimates of sells low, or were they simply unprepared to launch this thing.
Paying to play a game, only to be met with queues, is certainly not the best introduction

same thing happened in WoW mister started-playing-after-it's-been-out-2-years.

Fortunately, no one was doing that.

As long as the Scandinavian countries and Eastern Europe keep making awesome stuff, the rest of the world's developers can sod off IMO.
-
PS2 is pretty clearly the best console ever, especially when you consider that it could play all of your PS1 games. The quantity of good to great games available to play on it will never be equaled again.
-
That would just mean it's doing well off the bat.
I logged into WoW for the first time in awhile last night. Made me remember everything wrong with the game. Cataclysm can't save it from it's core faults.
-
What a gen last gen was:
:rock Halo
:rock RE4
:rock FFX
:rock God of War
:rock Wind Waker
RESPECT.

Which makes it by nature not a GAME.

Borys in 10 years: OMG GUYS, I'm playing this game called World of Warcraft, it's so awesome. It's even better than Ultima Online, which I just started playing a week ago!

Mainly endgame things. PVE-wise, I feel i've been fighting the same three bosses in raids for the past two years. There is still only three roles in raids. Very little dynamic aspect to the gameplay once you hit endgame.
PvP is just bad. When I logged in, I played an AB. I died a few times because spells were just randomly resisted. Not anything I did wrong or that the other player did right, it was just random dice rolls. Then I would have a flower stop my Thunderstorm spell from saving me. Minor graphic detail making spells useless is rather silly.

ToC 10/25 usually use CC in the faction champions.
