What are they going to call it in America?
It's in the press release: Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes.
-
isn't this just a clone of the crappy dynasty warriors games?
-
looks like crap
-
isn't this just a clone of the crappy dynasty warriors games?
It's better than DW.
-
Wii? loul

Wii? loul
More than likely the ps3 version is the wii version in hd. lol
-
isn't this just a clone of the crappy dynasty warriors games?
No, it's flashier (albeit wackier), has better stage/enemy variety, and is designed to be played in more linear-style stages like a traditional beat-em-up. It's a hell of a lot more fun to play than any of Koei's games. The series' biggest flaw is that you could only equip two different special moves at a time, but they are changing this in Basara 3. It's gonna be great!
-
it's better if you're a weeaboo
-
No 360 version?
Faggy game confirmed.
-
No 360 version?
Faggy game confirmed.
Took long enough for someone to mention that. :lol
-
No gameplay is kinda lame. I want to see a more DMC-like combo system and moveset; plus more enemy variety
-
What are they going to call it in America?
It's in the press release: Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes.
Figured that was just the Japanese name and it would be Devil Kings 2 or something
They probably want to avoid association with that disaster. Plus the animu is coming Stateside.

Looks fuck awesome, haters am owned total
PS3 version will have ONLINE CO-OP PLAY!!! :hyper

Ghost Trick confirmed for a US release as well. Looks better imo.

Those videos were sweet, Lyte.
:hyper
-
There's a game play trailer up on the Japanese Playstation store, looks sweet.
-
I thought I responded to this thread but I guess not
Looks way better than I thought it would be considering the Wii was bringing the PS3 version down.
-
Fantastic. I'll be glad to get the PS3 version. :)
-
I hope Lyte will get the NA version so we can play co-op :-*

I'm so nutso for this series that I will probably buy both the Japanese and American versions. :-[
I ended up with Basara 2 and Heroes on both the PS2 and Wii...prefer the look of the PS2 version (better graphics, plus upscaling on the PS3), but the Wii version has better 2P split-screen play (less frame rate issues) and you can transfer data back and forth between SB2 and Heroes, whereas on PS2 it's just a one-time transfer from SB2 to Heroes.

where is my superior 360 version

In my pants. Want to see? :teehee

So the Japanese version is coming out July 29th.
If the US version has dual-language, it should be the superior version (~$50 instead of $75-80, more people playing online). But if it's dub only it'll really kill a lot of the game since the kooky Japanese is a big part of it. Hope we find out by E3 if it'll have the Japanese track. Need to know whether to pre-order the import!

dub isn't terrible, but it's no JP basara
-
Looks great. Since it's on PS3 Capcom will have no excuse for excluding the Japanese VA, but I don't care a whole lot either way. Johnny Yong Bosch :rock
-
Johnny Yong Bosch strikes again (http://www.evilbore.com/forum/Smileys/default/jam.gif)
-
The dub isn't bad, but it doesn't fit. Masamura's Japanese VA is perfect. Plus I need those random English words thrown into his rambling. The cussing too.
-
That's the first DW style game I've seen that actually looks fun to play.
-
J Voices for comparison:

Date Masamune's VA is just too unique. He is Mugen in Samurai Champloo and Zoro in One Piece too.
That's the first DW style game I've seen that actually looks fun to play.
Sengoku Basara 2 and its Heroes expansion kicked the absolute shit out of all of Koei's games. The only Koei titles I've had about as much fun with are Warriors Orochi and Hokuto Musou. And Capcom's game still plays much smoother than those do. Plus there are other genres within the series. Sengoku Basara 1, 2, and Heroes are the brawlers. Sengoku Basara X is a 2D fighting game made by ASW. Sengoku Basara Battle Heroes is 3D arena fighter similar to Gundam Vs. Gundam. It will have been about two and half years since Heroes came out when SB3 hits, too. Unlike Koei's games, which come out like weekly. :lol
I like a lot of the music they use in these games, too.

looks amazing
but Gundam Musou is the ultimate musou game. Domon vs Kamille is the best dialog in a video game. Kamille whines about not having a reason to fight while Domon is like "reason to fight? THIS HAND OF MINE IS BURNING RED! IT'S LOUD ROAR TELLS ME TO GRASP VICTORY! GODDODO FINGAAAAH" Kamile-"FOUR! FOUR! :bawl " ... "HEAT-O END-O"

-
Yeah, I watched the Basara anime. The music is cool.
Based on the demo, the Gundam DW games sucked too.
-
Apparently no dual audio on the US PS3 Basara 3 because there is not enough space on the disc after copying & pasting the <6gig Wii disc contents to the 25gig bluray ::)
import get!
-
:bow Gundam musou 2
Kamille's a man's name and I'm a man!
-
So online co-op has been scrapped for Basara 3. What the fuck Capcom. What a failure of a decision. It's hilarious because online co-op is being added in Samurai Warriors 3, on the fucking ghetto Wii no less.
In short:
:piss Basara 3 :piss2
:bow Samurai Warriors 3 :bow2
-
Whaaaaaat?
Does this apply to the U.S. version only or both? Definite incentive to import if it's the former.
I may double-dip on Samurai Warriors 3 and get the U.S. version too if the online is good (and there are people who want to play it), but it's hard to tell with Koei.
Regardless, Basara 3 will still kick SW3's ass all over the place, online or no.
EDIT: No one is talking about the lack of online other than Koei Warriors, and that was from someone who went to E3. Maybe take it with a grain of salt?
-
Yeah I got it from koei warriors. It seems really idiotic to publically announce a feature (especially something major like online) and then axe it later on. It applies to all versions if it's true.
-
:bow koei :bow2
:piss crapcom :piss2
-
:bow koei :bow2
:piss crapcom :piss2
Or rather :bow Nintendo :bow2
Cuz Sengoku Musou 3 isn't online. Nintendo is publishing it in the States and got them to add online.

This game is :hyper :hyper :hyper :hyper :bow awesomeness confirmed :bow2
Picked Date Masamune (who greets you with "LONG TIME NO SEE!" at the select screen :lol) and went through his story on normal. People have been mentioning branching paths for other characters, but I didn't see anything for him. However, I was able to pick from several stages to play at a time, so maybe that's what changes your progression? When it was all over, I had cleared 8 stages out of 38 total. Each stage takes around 30-40 minutes to clear, and various gimmicks/hazards make their return from the previous games. The two levels I enjoyed the most were a battle against Maeda Toshiie and Matsu (it starts off in a small field; Matsu's not there and Toshiie will talk nonstop about food and how he's waiting for her to bring some more. She joins him and then as you fight them both, she will run and stop to give him riceballs. Then they retreat and have a picnic. :lol You have to take down their army, destroying their food stockpiles as fast as you can, since they will pop up and resupply an area if you linger in another long enough. Once you get them all, you can then take them down.) I also liked a stage against Tokugawa Ieyesu. At one point, you will start being chased by the huge, mech-like Honda Tadakatsu. After you take down a portion of his life, he retreats to an area in the center of the map and starts reigning down lightning bolts all over the place. It was awesome! The game's over-the-top nature is still in full effect, as are some comical cut scenes (one sub-boss walked into the "camera" and smacked his head; another couldn't draw his sword and used too much force, throwing it away :lol)
All the characters now have more moves available this time around. In Sengoku Basara 2, you only had two special attacks to use in-game. Now you have four (and they can be leveled up), and they are all available with different button combinations; no more switching between each one. You also will unlock three "super" moves. One can be used at a time. For Masamune, I unlocked a long-range energy ball attack that can be held and then released. It doesn't take any meter to use, but has a bit of a charge-up time to make up for it. The increase in moves, plus being able to power-up and use a musou attack makes each character feel more complete than in previous games. You also have a bodyguard that can be assigned and commanded to attack/defend depending on how you set him up. He can be leveled up as well. Weapons are found in-game and can be equipped with found or purchased attributes to strengthen their abilities.
There's only story and free modes this time around. Two players can play together and fight both the enemies and for the loot scattered throughout the game. SB3 runs at 60FPS in single player, with some frame rate drops (although no slowdown) here and there. It's also nice to finally have the characters' mouths moving when they speak. The game is nothing really stellar visually, but it runs nicely and has good animation. You'll face plenty of NPCs that you'll wish were playable - a number of them from SB2- as they clearly have all their own moves and abilities like the playable characters do. Guess Capcom is saving them for an inevitable expansion pack.
Going to try Magoichi next. He is now a she in this game and wields what appears to be a magnum, shotgun, and busts out a bazooka during her musou attack.

Thanks for the awesome gun-putting-on impressions, man! Can't wait for October to get here with the awesome $40 pricetag.
What are the trophies like?

Did you see that there's an Asian version for sale for like $50? $40 is better but I can't see myself taking to the game with those dubbed voices. I NEED WACKY ENGRISH ONE PIECE ZORO VA!
What are the trophies like?
I haven't checked (don't care about trophies), but they are listed in English.
-

Nah, I'll wait. I had some Amazon credit to use that was going to expire, so I threw it down on Basara 3. $40 sounded better to me than Japanese VAs.
-
The trophies I have are related to clearing the story mode and the difficulty setting.
Also this is interesting...I played it on the "normal" difficulty setting, but the English trophy says it was cleared on easy. I am going to replay the first stage with Magoichi on the hard setting now...guess for the U.S. they are changing "normal and hard" (you get harder difficulties unlocked) to "easy and normal." Makes sense.
-
That's really odd that the trophies are already in English, but the rest of the text isn't.
Gundam 0081 also has the trophies in English, even though the game is in Japanese and a localization was never planned/announced. Kinda weird.
-
Forgot to add that there are now Samurai Shodown/Koei musou-inspired clashes that can happen if you and a boss character trade blows. You have to mash square pretty quick to win out, which will then stun your opponent.

It even lists the game as "Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes" on the trophy collection screen, even though the game icon says "Sengoku Basara 3." :lol
-
Oh, and there's enemy spawn points, too. The map will list enemy units, and if you go their location, you'll find a small outpost being guarded by a guy with a long spear. He's always pretty easy to take out (he's stuck in place), and once you do, that area will be under your control and your army will start to appear. The game still is focused on it being your character versus all the enemies and not army vs. army, however.
-
LOL, the first boss I fought with Magoichi is like the Sengoku Basara equivalent of Wood Man from Mega Man 2. :lol He makes trees sprout up from the ground and sends them at you like barrels!
-
That's hilarious.
It's mighty tempting to import this, but I actually want to support the localized version since I have a feeling this won't do very well in NA.
-
I might end up buying the American version for the Wii, but if I'm going to be buying any one of these kinds of games twice, it's likely to be with Samurai Warriors 3, for the added online play.
-
yeah, I considered importing, but the budget price for the US version is nice. and I do wonder how these games sell. Either these games are dirt cheap to make or there is a very loyal minority into these games. I mean, there are Gundam games on PSP, PS3, 360, Wii, but in the past few years the only Gundam games have been the two musou ones. Same with Hokuto no Ken.
-
If I wasn't in Japan this past April, I wouldn't have bought HnK since we knew Koei had already announced it for localization.
-
The crazier sub-boss types are still intact!
-
Magoichi's story cleared. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention when I played as Masamune, but this time around, there was a clear choice as to which side to align to. I chose the dark side and would up teaming with Ishida against Tokugawa. Magoichi's story mode was a HELL of a lot better than Masamune's; the levels were much more varied and fun. And it's going to take at least one more go-round to play them all. Playing on hard adds more enemies to the level for you to maim; I can't wait to get extreme difficulty so I can start really racking up the combo count since there's a shitload more enemies. My current record is around 4000 hits. There's a trophy for getting 10,000.
Also checked out the Wii version. It's pretty damn impressive! Resolution difference aside (and it makes a pretty big difference), almost all the detail seems to be intact, and it's running at 60FPS, although there was noticeable slowdown at times. It absolutely puts Samurai Warriors 3 to shame on a visual level. I used the Wiimote+Nunchuk set-up, which was only so-so. You need a classic controller for the Wii version.

Really? I watched streams of both and I thought the Wii version looked like Basara 2, aka. a PS2 game. Whereas the PS3 version looked a little nicer with HDR/Bloom lighting, cleaner image and higher poly models + more enemies.
-
I don't understand why SW3 only looks marginally better than SW2 (at least from what i've seen, haven't actually played it yet) on PS2 yet runs at half the framerate. WTF is koei doing?
-
You bought the Wii AND PS3 versions?
I just tried it out on Wii.
Really? I watched streams of both and I thought the Wii version looked like Basara 2, aka. a PS2 game.
No, it looks better than SB2. I have SB2 on both PS2 and Wii, and the Wii version looks noticeably worse than the PS2 version, BTW.
Whereas the PS3 version looked a little nicer with HDR/Bloom lighting, cleaner image and higher poly models + more enemies.
Right, it definitely does. I said this. But the Wii version is still very impressive; if this is what they can do with their MT Framework engine, maybe a decent Wii port of RE5 would be possible. Not sure about the more enemies part though. That's likely the same. Remember that playing this game on harder difficulties means more enemies.
I don't understand why SW3 only looks marginally better than SW2 (at least from what i've seen, haven't actually played it yet) on PS2 yet runs at half the framerate. WTF is koei doing?
Yeah, SW3 is not any kind of visual leap at all. It's still a good game but Hokuto Musou and Sengoku Basara 3 are better games, IMO. SW3 is a solid title (and has some fun characters to use, plus the Muramasa castle mode with different enemies/stage hazards) but feels like not much is new overall.
Sengoku Basara always feels like a much, much smoother-playing game than anything Koei makes.
-
Cleared Maeda Keiji's game on hard the first time through, unlocking a new route and getting the extreme difficulty setting available. I tried playing Tsuruhime's stage on extreme with my level 29 Magoichi and finished it with barely any life left. Definitely more challenging which is very welcome for this type of game. Got a 600 attack point weapon for my trouble.
I love that there are stages in this game with their own enemy types and stage hazards/gimmicks. It's like the Mega Man of musou games.
Oh, and Maeda's first R2 move is very, very useful. He drops to the ground and takes a nap, which will then replenish his life bar. You can get out of this at any time by hitting R2 again, which does a small wake-up attack instantly. Made clearing some of his boss battles a snap, since I could just run away and get my life up without going back to any red chests I left behind.
His second R2 is just LOL. He sends out his monkey to get him an item, and it seems to be random. The first time I tried it, he brought me back some food, but the next time I did it, he came back with a huge bomb and wouldn't stop following me until it exploded. :lol
-
demo came out today on the ps3
Demo was awesome. Definitely buying this.
-
ugh, played as the brawler dude and thought it was boring and the camera was omg so bad. Fighting bosses was ridiculous with it. Is there no lock-on? I thought they added that in the PSP versus game.
I can see it being way more fun when you have more special moves (not just 3 like the demo) and have upgraded your moves so they are more fun to use. But playing as a starting gimped slow guy, it was pretty sucky.
Musou games are all the same. And with Hokuto US, Basara 3 US, and Gundam Musou 3 coming out in the next few months that's way too much repetitive punching guys over and over across 20-30 min maps. Don't think I can play more than one of these types a year and that'll be GM3.

Oh really? Cool, I wanna check out the dub.

There's no lock on but you don't need it. And yeah, you do start out gimped and will gain a nice little chunk of stuff after the first level is cleared. I need to check out the demo and see what it offers...who is "gimped slow guy?" If you mean the new dude with the ball n' chain, you're crazy...he is awesome.
Musou games are all the same. And with Hokuto US, Basara 3 US, and Gundam Musou 3 coming out in the next few months that's way too much repetitive punching guys over and over across 20-30 min maps. Don't think I can play more than one of these types a year and that'll be GM3.
Hokuto has a different feel to it and Basara is waaaaaaaaay more arcadey compared to Koei games.
But yes, I tend to avoid all these games too. You gotta pick one or two and stick with them, and make sure to play them on HARD (or more difficult). I don't really get the point of playing most of these games on easy or normal. They are way, way too easy that way.
Then again, you probably missed something about the game play like always Bebpo. ;) :lol
-
The dude did not have a ball and chain. I think it's the main guy? Brawler dude? All you could do in the demo was:
[] rush punch
triangle fist blow (hold triangle to charge for stronger blow)
direction + triangle uppercut that you can link into a [] followup (hold triangle to dash before uppercutting)
R1 ground smash (hold triangle for larger ground smash)
Jump + [] 3 hit air combo
Jump + triangle elbow ground smash (charge for stronger smash?)
L2 for HERO TIME when gauge is full (just makes everyone else slow motion?)
O for basara attack when gauge is full
L1 to block
direction+L1 to dodge (nice animation)
It was fun for a bit, but I got bored. Need more things to do and the camera was just bugging the hell out of me.
-
Remember you can use the block button or click the stick to center the camera behind you.
That's Tokugawa that you played as. I actually haven't gotten around to using him yet. I'm working on Fuuma Kotaro's game right now. Some characters are definitely more fun to play as than others, that's for sure. Magoichi is still my favorite with multiple types of guns she can use. I loved Date Masamune in SB2 but wasn't too thrilled with him in this game for some reason.
-
Yeah, I'll try it with the one other guy (grey haired purple clothes new sword guy) and see if he's more fun.
The dub is pretty terrible btw.
-
OK, yeah, the demo difficulty is way too easy and Tokugawa feels like he'd be a lot better once he gets more moves. So I don't blame you, Bebpo.
The dub is okay, I guess. But Tokugawa's voice actor couldn't say "Yukimura" properly. He said it like "Yukimorao." :lol I'm glad I got it in Japanese.
-
The dub is all over the place. Tokugawa (I think) sounded like a regular grunt dude, the second playable character (who was more fun to play as) voice and look didn't match up, but Yukimura sounded good.
-
I loved the demo. I had a lot of fun playing it, so so getting it. I like how fast paced it is, at least playing as Mitsunari made it seem fast paced. The guy who voicing Ieyasu also voices Tenma in the english dub of Monster. Automatically good. Too bad you couldn't play as Yukimura, I wanted to hear some Johnny Yong Bosch.
-
Tried the other guy with the grey hair. He's better. Was kind of fun. Might pick it up when it gets cheap, but lack of dual-voice is a real turn off. In feudal Japan games with non-stop shouting taunts English is kinda :-\
-
Yukimura's running animation looks really weird.
-
Demo was awesome stupid fun, can't wait for the full version.
-

NA version is out tomorrow! :rock
Anyone else puttin' their guns on?!?
-
yeah, but the demo was kinda eh
-
I might buy this with the K-mart credit I get from Vanquish since there's nothing else I want after that comes out. Either this or 3D Dot Game Heroes, not sure yet.
-
yeah, but the demo was kinda eh
The demo was too easy. Play the game on hard; it's much better that way.
-
I'll be putting my guns on at some point in the near future.
-
Amazon has my copy ready to ship out. Should be here Thursday.
-
yeah, but the demo was kinda eh
The demo was too easy. Play the game on hard; it's much better that way.
that wasn't the problem; rather, the problem was the camera and the annoying mission objectives including timed shit
-
The time is never a problem since those objectives are optional. Also if you used Tokugawa (the boxer dude), he kinda sucks, at least at first...I still haven't used him in the game yet so maybe he gets better.
Camera could definitely be better though. You just gotta get used to using L1 or clicking the right stick to snap it behind you.
