I haven't played Daytona in arcades in a minute. I need to dl this shit from mame for old times sake! Best racing franchise!
Between Virtua Fighter, Virtua Cop, Metal Slug, Street Fighter and Daytona I didn't really need anything else when it came to arcade games as a kid.
1993 version is still impressive to this day!

holy shit, is that really the guy who sang it? he looks absolutely nothing like what I expected.

Daytona USA is my favorite arcade game ever. I worked for my college arcade freshman year, working the crappy shifts due to lack of seniority, so Friday nights when everyone would be getting drunk and getting laid I would be playing Daytona to kill time. I loved the advanced track with the Jeffrey statue. I always dreamed of a perfect, legitimate port of Daytona, with wheel support one day.

As much as I'd hate to give Lockheed credit for anything, their 3D chipsets for SEGA were fucking awesome.

As long as Sumo Digital is doing the porting.
As I mentioned elsewhere, the Arcade Heroes forums are abuzz with rumors that Raw Thrills is doing a Daytona-like game of their own.

THIS JUST IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's the model 2 version in 720p complete with pop-in. Well, the pop-in is a little less if you compare it to the emulated version.
Oh yeah, and Takenobu didn't do the music. :yuck
Sega once again proves they don't get it

So this is basically a refresh on Daytona hardware so arcade operators don't have to do maintenence on 15-year-old arcade hardware :yuck

Would still love to see this on XBLA. Then we could just use the original Daytona soundtrack to solve that audio problem.
-
Pity they didn't use the Dreamcast stages, you know, the ones with the INFINITE DRAW DISTANCE
-
Really, who didn't see this coming?
-
Sigh...there you go...everytime people plead with SEGA to revive an old beloved franchise, this is what happens!
-

The Dreamcast Daytona was not good. The car models looked more Toontown than NASCAR, and the controls were squirrelly as hell.
-
Instead of the Sonic cycle, it should be replaced with the Sega cycle.
-
After spending some time tweaking the controls that game was Daytonaing in my mowf
The tracks looked awesome. No idea why they didn't use those. Maybe they lost them
Sega: Not Getting It Since 2001

The PC version of Daytona USA was really good. Had all sorts of options you could mess with, could change time of day and shit, I remember the graphics being pretty good too. I think it also had exclusive tracks never seen again. Seems like not many people played it tho.
Ah, so many potential great games that could have come from this! Oh well...guess we'll see if the standard one-race and no progression arcade game can survive in the current market...maybe it'll use some sort of stat tracking, I think that most SEGA games now have a card system...

I dunno man, how much monies are they going to get from a subset of a subset?
-
I agree with Sho Nuff. After tweaking some stuff a bit, the Dreamcast Daytona was awesome. It makes sense that there's no Takenobu Daytona theme song in the game, but they could have used a voiceless version for that stage or something....

I still hate how the car models in the Dreamcast version look more Toontown than NASCAR, though.

Who fucking cares? There's nothing "Nascar" about Daytona, thank the fucking lawd.
