So I made this UT3 level of Shinjuku Station with two buddies because I'm bored, but I have no idea if it's going to run adequately on other people's computers.

It has lots of gimmicky stuff, like a zero-G wind tunnel room, a trap room where you can trap your friends and drop a train on their head, a moving escalator, plus moving trains that you can push your friends in the path of (if you have a shock rifle).

It's about 85% new content so it's not the same pipes and stuff. Also, it's tailored for bot play so they're scripted to be devious and actually use the environmental traps.

It really is sad Epic are the only ones who release their editor with their games because I much rather would have made this for Rainbow Six Vegas or something, because UT3 is pretty dead.

Hmm I might have lied about the pipes not being there.
If anyone has the game installed and is bored I'll totally send you the beta version. If you have the PS3 version I can probably cook you a version for that too.

I'd love to try it on PS3...would give me a reason to boot the game up! :lol
-
That looks pretty cool. I kinda wish I picked up UT3 cheap on steam to check out things like this (I think someone did one of Blade Runner too) and some of the mods. This mod especially looks cool: http://www.moddb.com/mods/airborn

I have the Steam version. I'll play your map.
-
Did you finish it in a fit of "homesickness"?
-
Okeydokey, I'll cook out a Borito-exclusive version for y'all
-
I'd pick up the ps3 version just to try this out. the game is pretty cheap nowadays.

$18.99. I may have to get 2nd copy to test out the networking on PS3
-
I don't have a PC that can run UT3, so I picked up the PS3 version when it dropped to $19.99. It's pretty cool that a number of mods and custom maps work on it.

The beta's up here. Let me know if you have any problems. Read the readme and make sure you're rocking the latest version of the game with the Titan Pack (it's automatic if you have steam).

Was I right about the texture compression question? Did you change anything and, if so, was there any improvement in performance?

Well, my performance skyrocketed after I started mass assassinating emissive textures that were 2048x2048 sheets that were 95% black.
In making this mod I learned that assembling levels isn't hard, but making the raw assets takes for fucking ever and you'd might as well just outsource that bit to India.

It looks really nice from the pics. Don't have UTIII PC or else I'd give it a shot.
-
It's pretty great looking. You guys did an amazing job with the custom textures.
Performance kind of chugs on most of the main platform. I had every setting on default, rez @ 1650x1080, and I'm running a Quad Core 2 @ 2.2 w/ 4GB RAM and a 4870 512. It was struggling to keep me between 30 and 60 FPS.
I also got a weird shimmer effect on the grass/hay textures near the "do not enter" sign with the octopus.
-
Ok, textures are definitely making it chug then. At the last minute we added a bunch of high res textures and I think that's causing the problems. I am terrified of compiling a PS3 version in fear of it catching on fire

Tee hee. Try that one and see how well it goes; you'll pay 1/10th the price, but they'll have to re-do it 5 times, and then some Exec Prod will tell you it's great because it's half-off what it would cost to have a local artist do it. :-/

No chugging problems on my 3.8 ghz I7, 2 x 5870 + 9800GT for Physx. The level runs at 100-200 fps at 1920x1200 with max settings + 4XAA.
I liked it. It's a very nice looking map. I'd love it even more though if you could make a version that is slightly bigger and has more gratuitous physX effects.
Here are some caps for those that want to see what it looks like in Full HD:

Did anyone find the tribute to Augustus Cole and Billy Dee Williams?
