Day one:
Just got back from Gym. My brother told me " yeah, dude, just go there, there's always people to help you out and stuff".
He was semi right. Everyone there was awesome. But, they were to busy doing their own shit. I asked around and finally found some Persian dude, who helped me out on how to operate the treadmill, did a 20 minute cardio of about 14 km per hour ( this is so weak) with him talking about random shit. He explained to me that I needed a program, and the guys who usually do that aren't in on Sundays. My brother goes there almost every fucking day, except Sunday, so he didn't know it.
That 20 minute running felt like hell by the time I got to 15 minutes. My condition is absolute shit, and I have the typical nerdish/skinny built. I usually do 30 minutes of cycling, but running seemed like hell. I felt a cold reside within my heart. Sort of like when people get afraid, but with a bit of nausea.
I looked into the mirror and was amazed at how skinny I was. I just wanted to get some lifting done and feel proud for a day or something. I saw guys, who were fucking pumping it like crazy. And I didn't know where to start, the machines, I didn't even know what the hell they were.
I feel like shit, defeated cause I really hate to look awkward. So I'm walking home, and thinking to myself, being humbled is 50 percent of why you go to gym. Shit makes you less depressed. Which is why I just can't fucking wait to start already. I just can't wait till Tuesday, so I can finally start the program. I want to get healthy and strong by January 2010.
Hard part's over?
btw, I walk to gym, so my shit is gonna hurt like hell from now on.
fuuuuuck.

OP of the GAF fitness thread is informative.
-
Your cardiovascular endurance will go up really fast in probably just a few weeks so don't worry if you're getting tired on the treadmill now. The hardest part by far is building muscle, it should take a few months to get a noticeable cosmetic result.
-
Aren't you black? You should have a wiry muscular build at least dude, it's our racial trait. Couple more weeks and you'll be good

I thought the large ass was the racial trait. :(
-
For women yes.
-
big asses :bow2
btw, anyone have any experience with the ymca? i've heard they've got a sliding scale and my pay should be enough to make it slide as low as it gets, so i figure it'll be cheaper than a real gym. i wanna know if they still are gonna have staff to assist and a decent amount of equipment tho.
-
The local YMCA even offers a sponsorship program for people who want to join but can't afford to. That may vary depending on location, but it might be worth checking out.
-
Write down some regimen, anything at all. Seeing a log of what you need to do and what you've done is a strong motivator.
-
Yeah, that's good advice. I started keeping a log a bit too late, but it's pretty cool now. I also make the log for the next session and make adjustments afterwards if something didn't pan out (for some reason, the running bit never seems to happen as planned), gives me a goal and keeps me on target.
-
Keep the logs too.
I still like to look at the logs I had from 2003 and 2004 on occasion.
I also like to write the goals down and keep it in my pocket if I am able to. Sounds kind of cheesy but it works!

Day 2: Is there really a day two or is this day one?
Finally, it's the workdays again. So Wednesday is the best day outside of Sunday and Saturdays, that I can get my gym on. I went to the gym again, I finished my only lecture I had for the day and headed straight for the gym. Got there:
Me: Hi, I signed up earlier this week and was told to come back later in the week to discuss a possible program and or help I could receive regarding my training here.
Counter lady ( another one ): Yeah, cool, who told you to come back again?
Me: A blond lady, she sort of looked like you
Her: *Asks an older fellow* Who here works in the weekend again?
Older fellow: That'd be Lisa
Her: oh yeah, must be Lisa
Me: Yeah, she must have been the one
Her and older fellow: Come back 3:00 o'clock again, Perry will be in and he'll sort you out.
Me: Yeah, cool 3:00 O'clock? Thanks!
Her: it's ok. bye
On my way home, I realized, the gym is a 1.4 miles from where I live, I walked on the side of the motorway to get home. Since I don't want to use the tunnels ( They smell like piss and I get lost there very easily ). I'm having the worst fever I've had in years, actually thought I had swineflu, luckily, it's getting better than what it was the first 2 days. It's cold, I have a fever. I figured, I'd just get my gym on and get my body into exercise mode to get rid of it. Which of course didn't happen. I'm tired as hell now. My brother offered to go with me on Saturday and show me around ( I also have a feeling the instructors will be there on Saturday, so I can maybe, finally hooked up ). So I plan on not coming in on 3 O'clock today. Since I'm gonna have to walk there, with a devastating fever, in the cold. I've got 2 older brothers, one works night shift, so he'll be asleep the whole dayand the other, well, he just genuinely doesn't like to drive people around.
So Day 2: Still no gym done.
I have to keep pushing though. Keep pushing, because it's all for the better.
P.S
Thanks for the advice and support guys. I'm reading them and learning, please add more if you feel like it.

You didnt know how to use the treadmill?? :lol
-
My advice, which might be obvious is to make a routine.
Day 1: Legs back and abs
Day 2: Chest arms and shoulders
Day 3: Rest
Do some cardio before each work out. Like 15 minutes of running or something. Also since your skinny. Eat a lot of beef. Go out and buy a 20 pack of hamburger patties for $6 and eat like 2 a day and like 4 eggs.
-
Veidt, you need to post in the lifting/fitness thread. There are several programs that members are doing and work there, and there are several useful members that are great resources (Cormac <3).
In terms of making a log, there is an app on Iphone/touch called iFitness that has a log feature, timer, and even instructions on lifts, etc.
-
Awesome. I'll be sure to pick up an Iphone or an ipod touch sometime in the week.
