PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try out or buy right now "Frequency" and "Amplitude", Harmonix' first console games ever. They're so amazing.
-
there is not a single console that doesn't fall to PC GAMING, borys.
-
word, i would love to play ps2 in HD, but first i need to get a: PC, or an HD TV. i'm a slow adopter here. anyway, today i went out and bought midnight club 2. i'm not sure if it's nearly as good as i remember it being, but i do recall having a blast with it back in the day.
-
Why is everyone posting jappa games? Damn weeaboos.
-
All the western games are on Xbox.
-
Gungrave
Is Gungrave as shitty as the anime? Or should I say, is Brandon Heat still the worst character in the history of the universe?
Maybe I'll play that some time.
-
I bought a ps2 for katamari damacy. Didn't regret it. Didn't play much else though...
-
Yes Gungrave is terrible.
-
FreQuency and Amplitude. Guitar Hero 1-80's.
-
Because FreQuency and Amplitude are wholy original and nothing else on the market are like them. I defintly reccomend them, def in the top 10 of best ps2 games.

Gungrave

It's a score based arcade shooter like The Club or RE Mercenaries except with linear levels. Your goal is to keep a combo going throughout the entire stage by shooting objects between people. If you play it for the ranking scores it's a great game, especially for budget prices. If you just play it like a normal 3rd person shooter it's short and unspectacular.

Stretch Panic
Mr Mosqueeto
Mad Maestro
Gregory Horror Show
Gitaroo Man
:bow PS2 :bow2

truly the best console ever

I can think of a recent example that describes the gameplay: In Bayonetta when you spin the stick to make it manual aim aim and mash on Y, well, that's the shooting in Gungrave. Occasionally you dodge, but it's mostly just shooting the shit out of everything by planting your feet and firing nonstop. (and I liked the anime :-[)
Why would you recommend rythim games to anyone these days? The market is saturated with them and I thought the whole idea behind the PS2 purchase is to try the quality games that this generation lack.
Though you should try gitaroo man if you haven't tried the PSP's version.
Rhythm games before this gen (save for the Konami ones; DDR, Pop'n, Beatmania, etc.) were actually creative and unique. Gitaroo Man was basically like riding on a visualizer. DS has some good ones too like the Ouendan games, and there was another one that I can't remember the name of but there was a thread recently and you basically strum up and down on the stage to make the character bounce up/fall to classical music and it looked REALLY AWESOME but I don't remember the name of it.

Midnight Club 2 was so much fun online. Have no memories of the single player. It sucks that it's probably impossible to get a past multiplayer game going.
I wonder if people still play Twisted Metal Online.

I probably would've liked Gungrave if Brandon wasn't the tooliest tool to ever tool. God damn did that annoy me. But anyway, I checked out some videos on youtube and the game looks pretty decent. I'll probably pick it up some day.
As for recommendations, Bebpo covered pretty much my entire list minus Gitaroo Man and some imports (King of Colosseum 2 and CAVE shooting games mainly). There's also Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, which is easily the best wrestling game of all time. So if you like wrasslin' I'd say to pick that up.

Multiplayer on PS2 -- heh. You've noticed there are only ports for two controllers, right? How many games actually supported the multitap, anyway?

I don't care for most of the games listed thus far, but if you are into survival horror there is some really great stuff. Clock Tower 3, Haunting Ground, Fatal Frames and plenty more I can't remember. I found Siren a bit too much trial and error but it's worth a shot.
SSX Tricky and SSX3.
And goddammit I loved Sly 2 even if nobody else did.

Man, Clock Tower 3 was rough as hell even when it was released. I doubt it could be easily enjoyed today. Fatal Frame series and Haunting Ground probably hold up well, however. Siren was pretty rough, but Siren 2 was phenomenal. Of course, I have the JP version of that and don't think it saw a release anywhere else. :\

If you can play imports:
ESPGaluda
Mushihime-sama
Dodonpachi Dai-ou-jou
SEGA AGES: Phantasy Star Collection
SEGA AGES: Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box
SEGA AGES: Monster World Collection
-
Gungrave is shit, avoid.
I didn't see the Champions Of Norrath (which are four player dungeon crawlers from Snowblind, makers of Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance) and Mark Of Kri/Rise Of The Kasai games mentioned. Those are definitely worth picking up.
-
Get Summoner, man. Very underrated. And not made in Japan.
-
Jesus you have a hard on for anything Volition, it's almost like you work for them.......................................................................................
-
Oh that reminds me, Red Faction, man. Another classic. Also not made in Japan.
-
God of War series :bow2
Although, I'm still really uncertain on how 3 is going to be able to set itself apart.
-
No, no, I wasn't saying it as LOL KONSOLEZ!!! but just from a evolution point of view. Everybody would like to play PS2 games in HD and you kind of can now on PCs whereas you could not do it a few years before.
Enjoy the games, man. PS2 is the best console system EVER. There are still over 20 games I need to buy for it.
Can't wait to hear you raving about Uncharted's awesome graphics 10 years from now.
