Title: Interview with FoC in the paper.

Telling her mother that she wanted to come to the aid of a library under attack, 11-year-old Sydney Sabbagha stood at the podium before the Oak Brook village board.

"I used to go to the library knowing there were people there to help me find a book. Now there is no one to help me," Sydney said solemnly. "It will never be the same without the people you fired."

Sydney nestled back into her seat, but that didn't stop 69-year-old criminal attorney Constantine "Connie" Xinos from boldly putting her in her place.

"Those who come up here with tears in their eyes talking about the library, put your money where your mouth is," Xinos shot back. He told Sydney and others who spoke against the layoffs of the three full-time staffers (including the head librarian and children's librarian) and two part-timers to stop "whining" and raise the money themselves.

"I don't care that you guys miss the librarian, and she was nice, and she helped you find books," Xinos told them.

"Don't cry crocodile tears about people who are making $100,000 a year wiping tables and putting the books back on the shelves," Xinos smirked, apparently referencing the fired head librarian, who has advanced degrees and made $98,676 a year. He said Oak Brook had to "stop indulging people in their hobbies" and "their little, personal, private wants."

Sydney was upset and "her little friend was in tears" after Xinos spoke at the meeting last week, says mom Hope Sabbagha.

"I wanted that kid to lose sleep that night," a grinning Xinos says Wednesday, as he invites me for a nearly two-hour interview in his Mercedes-Benz in the gated Oak Brook community where he lives. "This is the real world and the lesson, you folks who brought your kids here, is if you want something, pay for it."

Quote
He campaigned, successfully, against a plan to bring subsidized housing for seniors into town by declaring, "I don't want to live next to poor people. I don't want poor people in my town."
Quote
Xinos, who unsuccessfully sued to stop the building of the new library

Christ, what an asshole. Read on for more hilarious quotes from the world's most miserable human being.

Xinos then snatched the teddy bear from Sydney's hands and set it on fire, calling it an "object lesson."

Those who come up here with tears in their eyes talking about the library, put your money where your mouth is!  :smug

I do through my taxes.  :smug

I mean you should pay for it directly. :smug

But then it wouldn't be a public library; it would be a bookstore.  :smug

Exactly.  :smug

You'd expect Constantine Xinos to be the evil emperor's even more ambitious son in a Tales game.

Xinos: I'm not a bad guy; people can come use my personal library.
Reporter: There's nothing on the shelf except 14 copies of Atlus Shrugged.
Xinos: And?  :smug

And poor Sydney is going to have to do a lot of level-grinding to get past Xinos' third form.

You don't actually read books while in the library, do you? The library is in a Chicago suburb, not Australia. The girl's name is Sydney.

Self annihilated. :-\

... how was I supposed to know that a lawyer named "Xinos" is from the United States? That sounds like the name of a foreign mad man!

This from a man who has a forum featuring a banner bearing the likeness of noted American Patriot Dr. Ingatius Piazza.

Actually, Ignatius Piazza and Constantine Xinos both sound like Bond villains.

What a Red. I bet Xinos is Russ for "KGB plant".

Catch bad guys? Why do I need to pay for that? I've never been the victim of a crime AND I managed to be born to someone that lives in one of the safest cities in 'MURIKA. If your 'hood isn't safe, move to a safer one.

Put out fires? My house has never been on fire, why do I want to pay for protecting it then? One time my kitchen almost caught on fire and we put it out with baking soda. We took personal responsibility. :smug Worst case scenario, we have homeowners' insurance.

Buildings are sturdy? If businesses built un-sturdy ones no one would buy them. Much ado about nothing.

And roads? That's why we invented toll roads.

On the Borecast, Prole was talking about how you can't just grab a kid and tell them "Life will fuck you up!" Well, apparently you can.
