The PSP Go is disaster on many levels. Pricing, nickel and diming with accessories not compatible with your older PSP, and Sony still hasn't put in place a system to legally transfer your UMD library to the PSP Go without double dipping. I was honestly interested in the system, but Sony has definitely mishandled this iteration of the PSP, especially for fans of the previous model.
However, one positive of the Go is the inclusion of PSP titles available for download on PSN. The American store is missing some key titles such as the Lumines games, MGS:PO, and Crisis Core, but the there's a wider selection of content now, especially with the fact that all new PSP games must now be available on PSN as well.
Are you gonna start buying PSP games of the PSN store, or are you gonna stick to UMD, which give can be resold or traded?
-
only way i'd buy a game off of psn is if i couldn't find a copy of the umd somewhere
-
The PSPgo is such a POS
more like POSgo, lol am I right
-
It depends, mainly on price.
I'm going to get a bigger memory stick rather soon, but when I feel in the mood for a new game, I'd rather spend $15 for a virtual ownership, just so I don't have more room taken up in my apartment.
-
UMD all the way for the dual PSN/IUMD releases. As long as I can rip 'em, compress 'em, and sell 'em when I'm done with them, I'm sticking with that format. Not to mention I can play games from anywhere in the world that way, instead of having to switch accounts (and that can only be done where a suitable wi-fi connection is available).
So no thanks. I'm all for digital distribution, but not with the way it's being handled with the PSP. I'll gladly buy Minis titles as good as Thexder, though.
-
I would imagine it's hard considering the PSN releases don't keep up with the UMD releases.
-
My plan was originally going to get the games on PSN since with the exception of the rumored PSP-4000 I wasn't expecting any PSP in the future, or PSP2, to have a UMD drive. But then I realized that new games are at least $10 more expensive and I'm not getting a box/manual. Even the older games are a lot more expensive. You see people making price comparisons that ignore most online retailers. The gamble now is waiting for Sony to make a proper method of transferring my UMDs. I'm hoping if there is a PSP2 they stop caring about it since PSP1 games on the thing would just be BC. That probably won't happen.
-
No Lumines on PSN? Are you fucking joking?
There's a number of games you'd expect to be up that aren't anywhere in sight. :-\
-
hell fuck no. One game costs more than the price of a tool battery. :lol Not that that's sony's fault, just my evil utilitarian speaking.
but what happened to "700 games at launch!" or whatever they were saying. Seems like they didn't upload much for launch.
-
What? You guys do know that there's been PSP games on the PSN store for two years now right? There's easily about 200+ titles on the store.
-

Yup. And it's still missing a ton of good shit.
And they promised 700 titles at launch.
And if you factor in the amount of games that were already there, the "launch" was pathetic.
-
I think they said 12,000 pieces of content. I can't find this 700 figure anywheres.
And really? Three games out of the entire PSP library and it's considered a "giant failure"? Come on. Lumines and Lumines 2 can't be on there because of music licensing issues apparently. That's not Sony's fault, that's Q? Entertainment's fault.

6:54: Now he's discussing the use of the PSP and PSP go as a network terminal. There will be 700 titles available for download when PSP go hits North America, and 400 when it hits Japan.
http://playstationlifestyle.net/2009/09/23/hundreds-of-psp-go-titles-available-at-launch/
Sony announced that 700 titles will be available for download when the PSP Go hits North America next week, and 400 when it hits Japan this November.

Between PSOne Classics, PSP Games, PSP Minis, and PS3 games their are more than 700 titles.
-
No.
-
Between PSOne Classics, PSP Games, PSP Minis, and PS3 games their are more than 700 titles.
You can download PS3 games straight onto the PSP? :spin It's disingenuous for Sony to talk about the PSP GO and include PS3 titles in their downloadble figures--if that's what they did.
-
How do you know the journalists didn't misrepresent what was said? You know similiar to how your once overlord said "Xbox 360 is the ONLY place you can play GTA4, Halo, and Mass Effect".
-
iirc they tried to play it off by saying they meant "content" and that included videos and stuff.
-
Some of the prices on PSN aren't too bad but you usually still find physical copies cheaper and rip 'em yourself (assuming you're on CFW, which you should be). If you don't have CFW then the PSN store might be a viable place to get games.
But it's pretty shameful that new games still aren't getting released simultaneously on PSN and UMD, or even the same week in some cases. Sony obviously knows as well as everyone else that PSP Go is shit.
-

Microsoft was once Malek's overlord?

No Lumines on PSN? Are you fucking joking?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_downloadable_PSP_games
Dissida isn't even there.
-
Dissidia is coming. Some of the missing Capcom titles are coming over the next few months (lol) too. But there's so much missing.
-
You would think that with the people who are stupid enough to buy one, getting a game like Dissidia there at launch would be a priority. But hey there's a demo of a game you can't buy for PSN but can on UMD.
PSP Go is the best advertising for PSP-3000 ever.
-
Every game should have been there day one. Even the ones people don't care about, like infected and coded arms.
Absolutely.
-
I gotta say that I am not very happy about games not being available. I figured that they would at least add a bunch on the Thursday following the release of the Go. I will probably give them till November to get their heads out of their asses or I will bail on the Go and just wait for the 4000.
-
it's not like they can just dump the games on the store when they want, alot of the games have liscenced tracks and other stuff.
-
it's not like they can just dump the games on the store when they want, alot of the games have liscenced tracks and other stuff.
I got a good idea - How about Sony works that shit out ahead of time before they release a PSP that can only access games by downloading them!!
This is the only issue that makes me think I got ripped by purchasing a Go. All the rest of the complaints registered take a big goddam backseat to this one.
-
How is liscencing issues on non sonys games even remotely their fault?
-
Does Lumines 1 even have licensed tracks? I thought it was just the second game. And what about Every Extend Extra?
-
I think it's pretty dumb of you to expect any MLB game pre-2009 of The Show. Again, those are a major deal with the liscences that no one would even care to drop the amount of money to put them up for sale.
And yeah, L1 had liscenced tracks, Shinin' for example.
-
Why dont you expect the same from MS?
-
How is liscencing issues on non sonys games even remotely their fault?
Because the games are playable on the PSP - the Go is advertised under the PSP moniker. If it is only going to play some of the games in the PSP library then fucking tell the consumer that.... it shouldn't be that hard for you to understand why someone would be pissed about this.
Making excuses for them is fucking distinguished mentally-challenged.....
-

Do YOU own a PSP Go? Do I? No, so we don't know if it says that on the box or anything.
-
Because my Xbox 360 was nothing but reliable and provided me countless hours of entertainment at an extremely fair price point compared to the PS3 price at the time of my 360 purchase. It also had numerous exclusives that interested me, where as the PS3 only has one at this time that I'm absolutely dying to play.
So why do you want a PS3 instead of getting another 360 again? :lol

Arde0 has a PSP Go, dumb ass. Even said it in this thread. :lol

I'm sorry, next time I index what every member of a online community has i'll be sure to correct that mistake.

I thought he meant it as in he's waiting on a purchase of a Go. No weres in there does that say "I have a go".
-
LOL.
You replied right after Arde0 did, and it was to a post Arde0 made in response TO YOU. :lol Proof bolded for dumb asses:

Never change.

Managing a download-only console may prove harder than Sony first imagined. If you are a European customer who purchased a PSP Go, you were given a voucher for your choice of three games. The problem is that many gamers use their PlayStation 3 to download PSP content, and Sony locked the downloads down to whatever system customers use to grab the content. That means that if you used your PlayStation 3 to download the games, you're out of luck. This isn't the only issue to hinder the PSP Go's momentum.
waaaait hold on - you download the game with a voucher to a PS3 and the game is locked to the PS3 and cannot be transferred to a PSP ?!
do Sony test anything or do they just fart into the wind and hope it works?
This is appallingly amateurish. If at my place of work someone was able to somehow get this sort of gaff through our tight controls people would be bounced off the fucking walls for being so fucking incompetent.
This is the part that bothers me the most. It really and truly seems as if they didn't think this system through AT ALL.

Well TTP says he did all of his on his PS3 and it works fine so everything is fine
-
hows it compare to the PSX in terms of sony shittyness?
-
here is the XFE definitive short review of the PSP Go
it is small , very small
the controls don't feel cramped
the screen is very nice
the games transfer from the ps3 pretty snappily
motorstorm nom nom nom
sucky things:
only three levels of brightness
battery life seems to be pretty frigging low, seemed to go from 100 to 40 in not long at all (2 hours :/)
colours are possibly a bit oversaturated
still hamstringed by :
i have to buy everything back that i cared about
price is not going to attract the casuals in
usual Sony bullshit and lack of games for DL
i was already a big PSP fan, if it wasn't for the things Sony fucked up this could have been their best system ever.
Battery life and speed of game roll outs remain the big bug bears so far.
And you're gonna waste money re-buying games for this thing again? :-\
-
Yeah I read on GAF that they raised the price on quite a few things....only a few more steps before I tell Sony to take a flying fuck....
....sorry for ever doubting you XFE, Sony really is a shithole of a company. Too bad the PSP is the only real handheld alternative.
:bow XFE :bow2
-
All of the older games should be cheap - even cheaper for games that Sony controls. Pricing for the old PSone titles are not that bad though. 10 bucks for FF7 and RE is a pretty good deal for me considering I sold my original discs years ago.
The Go is a fucking joke - shame too. If only MS would get off their asses and produce a competitor to the PSP. The Zune could provide some fun whenever they start producing games for it - just wish it had physical buttons.
-
hooooooooooooooly fuck
Sony put the prices of a load of the games UP on PSN.
what balls!
No, bro. Their sale just expired. They had some titles on sale during the launch week.
-
XFE, How are the load times compared to using UMDs?
-
They need to build in some sales, like Steam does.
And no legacy game should go for more than $20. $22.99 for Loco Roco and such is insulting.
-

The sequel costs less on PSN. :lol
-
as long as i get cards to put money then yea i would buy.
don't give a shit about selling since i hardly sell any games i have.
The only peeve would be some of the pricing especially if at that time i can get the UMD cheaper.
-
PSX was a disaster of shitty software and broken promises
PSP Go is a disaster of terrible execution and broken promises
PSX is still their worst moment - they would have had to remove the screen from the PSP Go to equal that fucking disaster.
I actually really like my PSX -- I think it's primarily a failure of their marketing department to position it properly. Where do you think they screwed up on software?
-
:rofl at MyNameIsMoron

WEEK 3 YURO STORE UPDATE
0 games
1 mini
:bow SONY :bow2
-
I remember you gave me a DVD you burned off the PSX one time, DC. My PC wouldn't recognize it, and then turned out that you could only watch in on the PSX, IIRC. :lol :-\
You did good with Betamax, Sony. I mean, you lost that war, but that was clearly superior. Everything else...uhhhhhhhhhhh.......
-
I still remember back at the end of 2004, when I had just imported a PSP and so taken with it-- I was telling my father how it was going to be the portable device that would overtake Apple and the iPod. :lol
:-[
-
Sony lost the portable game when it invented a new format. Especially one that eat battery Life. It was a great idea, graphics and storage, but when talking portable, 3 hours of battery is just weaksauce.
-

In all my time with the PSP, battery life is the least of my issues.
Load times and the Square button are my only real complaints.
-
I actually really like my PSX -- I think it's primarily a failure of their marketing department to position it properly. Where do you think they screwed up on software?
did you get a version 1 unit?
version 1 issues from launch (MIGHT have been fixed after the first year, maybe not) :
* near 3 minute switching to PS2 mode - fixed with update
* only keyword searching for long term programming with only 1 week forward view - must be repeated, no auto recording
* no support for cable tv or sky perfect :/
* would decide to record different channel - bug - fixed with update
* insanely slow DVD burning speed (Sony claimed revolutionary 12x DVD* burner speed - claim later clarified that 12x DVD speed meant 12x the speed of a 1xCD writer (i shit you not))
there were more complaints - have to go back and revisit. It was bordering on being a great machine - but they just f*cked it up (seems to be par for the course). The final insult was when things like cable support etc (whcih was SUPPOSED to be firmwared into the original unit) didn't happen but they released the PSX1.1 and said "oh if you want those features now, you need to upgrade to the new model")
F*CK Ken K in his fat hamster face. TWICE.
Yeah, I'm on the 1.1 drill, or whatever the first rev they did was labeled.
I think all those problems are fixed in mine. Burned DVDs are the envy of my other friends, unless they're familiar with Apple's iDVD. But All the other appliance-level DVD burners produce menus that look like text terminal interfaces, while Sony's are actually pretty. One-week limitation on advance view is standard to their crappy "G-Guide" service, but it can be set to "Every Monday at 07:00 a.m." with ease. Shifting from PS2 or DVD playback /back/ to DVR mode is the same amount of time as booting the machine before its services come online: about 40~50 seconds.
My big issues with it are whinier:
Setting the time based on G-Guide, which has numeric IDs associated with each show, the PSX does not auto-adjust time if the schedule changes, even if its guide info is updated with the new time.
Not sure why Sony licensed Tivo s/w and then decided not to put it in PSX, only in Coccoon line.
Firmware update has never, ever worked. It always times out after downloading 90% of... something.
SAP/sub audio settings not available per recording
Crashes frequently, needs reset button (though holding down the power button for 10 seconds does force a shutdown)
...See? Nothing but tiny complaints. The only thing that ever made me unhappy with it was visiting my sister's place in the USA and having access to her Tivo for a week. That software is epic.

Still on a launch model 1000?
-
Yeah. And I even modded my buttons and d-pad. But it's still not perfect.
-
a fantastic update this week - very happy.
i notice with some horror that i'm racing towards 50 PSP games from psn.
burn him :punch
-
It's not DCharlie buying those games and making those posts. It's...it's his son! Yes, his son has hijacked his account and is using his PSP Go. Only logical explanation.
-
HOT SONY HANDHELD LOVE <3 <3 <3
The Go is fantastic, it's already great but once it gets hacked - oh my! ;)
My 4 lucky game sharers get a free 48 game hawl :O
Yes, if it gets hacked, I'll eat my words and buy one-- but I wouldn't be buying games off the PSN store. ;) :lol
-
They actually had a good amount of PSP games up today. Biggest surprise is Armored Core 3 Portable for $15. It seems like a PSN only release, and that's pretty good for a new game.

I think Japan got a UMD release.
-
If we weren't getting raped for prices with the Europe/PAL store it would be a much easier product to swallow.
-
Easiest example is Prinny
US$10 versus 32 squid. Just a fucking joke.

they did, but a localized version was never announced or anything. It just showed up, and there is no listing for a UMD verison in America.
-
dcharlie's sfagism has infected groo :(
-
Edit: Boring Math Shit
-
Anyways, this is distracting from the sheer glow of the PSP Go! I can't wait to pay for games i already own on UMD again this week!
Is that sarcasm? I can't tell in this thread. Plus there's your accent.
-
Ah i know.
I have it like this : loved the psp 2000, the go is a nerfed 2000 but with a much better screen and is more pocket friendly.
Its a total luxury item because anyone with half a brain should laugh the go out of existance... But i cant help it, i really like it as a gaming machine. I am aware that makes me not much better than the slobbering scoqs but hey.

The PSP Go sold 28,275 units on launch day in Japan.
So, PSP2 next year?
-
Seems like they already fell off. :P Nothing weird about it being hidden...retailers would rather push the other PSP system, that can give them additional software sales. I bet the 360 ends up being the better-selling system. Never thought I'd say that. :lol
In other news, BlazBlue is coming to PSP in February, and Ikkitousen Eloquent Fist is getting a boob-tastic sequel. Looks better than the original, with a partner system and more moves. Hope the A.I. is challenging this time around...
