I got a job. Like a real bona frakking fide job job... that pays... with benefits... that will actually further my career and not just have me treading water... which is a miracle in this economy. Though I've enjoyed my gaming time while being unemployed, it will be nice to be able to actually afford new games on a regular basis again. But seriously, if I hadn't been a total scrub for a good deal this past year, I probably never would have been able to play through all the way through Persona 4 and Persona 3 FES back to back, followed by Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey (hurry up and finish that game so I can have my copy back, ferricide :P ), followed by Fallout 3 w/ all expansion packs. Too bad FF XIII didn't come out here during my employment hiatus. It's been a good year for gaming for me. But now I won't have any guilt about going day one to buy this:

... even if I may not have time to play it any time soon.
(oh wait, I will... don't start the new job till Nov 1st.)

Well, it's not my first real job by any means. I left a really good career a few years ago to start law school. It's been a shitty time to be graduating and trying to get back into the work force. I had started regretting ever leaving my old job.
Government work isn't for everyone, but it's what I've always done. Public service is all I've ever really wanted to do. They pay isn't spectacular but it isn't bad either. The hours are great, holidays off, can't beat the benefits, and most importantly, I'll feel good about myself at the end of the day. I had an offer to go work for a firm making a lot more but doing stuff that I'm just not cynical enough to do. But I have a conscience, and the job I'm taking will put me on a vector to achieving my more long term professional goals.
