This is the first game I uninstalled on my new laptop. Holy fuck does it suck. It's like playing a test. The tutorial is useless: "You are now being shot at. Open the combat radial, find the movement dial, select a column spread and a movement speed". WHERE THE FUCK IS THE COMBAT RADIAL? This game has like 75 hotkeys. Also, "Okay, air support says all clear. PROCEED". Well, okay, I'll just stand up and H FUCK I GOT SHOT IN THE FACE. "Lol okay open the combat radial press z, select q and the kind of healing and what color the skin of the medic should be and then pick where we went to college and use the GPA spinner to select how well he did in Feminist Literature".
Jesus christ. Also, it plain sucks and the vehicles are awful. DELETED.

I'm very early in, but I'm kind of enjoying it...

I haven't played it, but based on what I've seen and read, it misses the whole combat sim mark in the same way that your typical racing sim misses its mark. Combat, at least in entertainment form, should be an instinctual thing. So the gun should have as little presence as possible, and controls should allow a full range of combat abilities while still being natural, or else it does a poor job of mimicking human abilities. Here they seem to have added complexity where ever possible, and that doesn't make sense. Again, I haven't played it so this may change when I actually do, but it seems like Ghost Recon does a much better job balancing human limitations and a pure combat experience.

This. I immediately thought of any recent R6 title.

It looked really cool in the videos to me. Maybe the console versions have more streamlined controls?

The controls are roughly the same on the PC and the console version. (Which is why some PC people don't like it)
There are a lot of controls and options and the only way to do it on a console is pretty much what they have done which is, stick it in a radial menu that has layers.

Has anyone that has played Dragon Rising played the original OFP? How do they compare?
Anything has to be better than this. Insteas of "Dragon Rising" use the words "Going to school". Let me help:
Has anyone that has gone to school played the original OFP? How do they compare?

Sounds like this game was just over GilloD's head. Maybe you should stick to Bejeweled.

I don't mind a learning curve, but coupling a shitty tutorial with a complicated game is a bad idea.

Gillod playing Sins of a Solar Empire or something would be fantastic comedy
