Saudi Arabia is trying to enlist other oil-producing countries to support a provocative idea: if wealthy countries reduce their oil consumption to combat global warming, they should pay compensation to oil producers.
The oil-rich kingdom has pushed this position for years in earlier climate-treaty negotiations. While it has not succeeded, its efforts have sometimes delayed or disrupted discussions. The kingdom is once again gearing up to take a hard line on the issue at international negotiations scheduled for Copenhagen in December.
You'll have Dubai. :teehee

Oil money is going to ** ****'s pockets, what can a bunch of poor lackeys do about it?
In related news, we'll not be hearing from Jinfash ever again.
Well that's stupid, but what struck me the most is that they've been trying to push this for a while. I don't remember anyone mentioning it, then again we thrive on censorship.
Obviously, It's the sole resource of the country, and without it we're fucked. Think going backwards a couple of decades, three to you people.
Completely untrue. There's more than just oil to keep this country afloat for the next century.
Aside from the fact that Saudi Aramco is still discovering more and more oil fields, we have the 4th largest Natural Gas reserve in the world.
Also, power generation, steel, chemicals, polymers, cement and telecom industries are booming compared to the rest of the Middle East & Africa.

90% of Saudi Arabia's export earnings come from oil.Aside from the fact that Saudi Aramco is still discovering more and more oil fields, we have the 4th largest Natural Gas reserve in the world.
Hey, we have gas, too! Diversity! Also, power generation, steel, chemicals, polymers, cement and telecom industries are booming compared to the rest of the Middle East & Africa.
I'm pretty outgoing compared to other hermits. Winnipeg's climate is pretty warm compared to Siberia.

Distinguished sand fellow:lol :lol :lol
This is the internet, of course sole resource is an exaggeration, just like how completely untrue is every bit as exaggerative.
You've mentioned natural gas (extracted from oil wells) as one of the other exports among other SABIC products, most of which are are petrochemicals and petro-extracts. The bottom line is that the country is very dependent on oil and it can't endure the economical impact that'll hit once they lose it (duh!). Just look at this absurd proposal that they're trying to push, I don't think they're interested or have faith in any type of alternative resource.
Distinguished sand fellow, please.
Who is going to pay for thousands of miles of pipe for the natural gas? Europe has Gazprom and compressing it in tanks and shipping it off is pretty inefficient. Not to mention the possibility for violence along a high pressure pipeline. The US is discovering more and more reserves and Canada is just fine on that front. Besides, the environmental measures are aimed to curb all fossil fuels, not just oil.
The Saudi economy's backbone is oil.

You don't say.
what about the camels, jinfash? what about the camels?
Yes, they're trying to decrease their dependency and shift their focus to something else, but a process like that will take them long time before achieving the desired results.
You're making me cite the obvious here, stop.
Ah yes, technicality. Don't stop there, you have to mention our wheat, grains and salt exports.
You get the feeling Whiskers is the gubmint operative assigned to monitor Jinfash's posting activity as it specifically relates to Saudi interests?
Unbelievable. You've opened my eyes.
I got grilled because I used the word "sole", but I also mentioned "getting sent back two hundred years" and "all the money is going coughcough's pockets" but I wasn't corrected. Looks like both are COMPLETELY TRUE :o(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IVI5W8Eg3Gs/SI8lYL-M6jI/AAAAAAAAABE/hJEyACF7rNQ/s320/YouMad.jpg)
It's like unemployment benefits for commodities.
paying even more money to greedy, evil corporations? Yeah, I've got no truck with that. It's like unemployment benefits for commodities.
I'm assuming that liberals will find no qualms with this idea.
