This aint racist though.

i really don't get why this is so hard to understand - white people put on blackface for shows that stereotyped black people in insulting and demeaning ways that helped perpetuate a perception among whites that blacks were stupid, lazy, etc.  it should just be an embarrassing reminder of the old days, but ignorant white people keep throwing it back out there instead respecting the fact that a lot of people find it offensive.

and in this case it looks like it was done for no other reason than to generate controversy.  fuck vogue.

This isn't really racist.  Pretty tasteless, unimaginative, and in no way able to qualify as "art" or whatever bullshit.

I didn't see the gaf thread but I think most people there were thinking about Europeans and blackface racism, they were using zwarte piet which is obviously hella racist.

What happened to gorgeous faces? I was looking at some 50's era fashion mags (one being Bazaar) and there was a balance between beautiful face and slender body. Now all a model needs are coat hanger shoulders so designers can hang their conceptual garments off them.

Also, as far as fashion photography goes (and portraiture in general) :bow "Irving Penn" :bow2
