At an industry summit in NYC on Oct. 21, News Corp Deputy Chairman Chase Carey revealed that online video hub Hulu will begin charging users for content as soon as 2010, according to Broadcasting and Cable. Carey told reporters that a subscription system is likely, although some content will probably continue to be offered free of charge. “I think a free model is a very difficult way to capture the value of our content. I think what we need to do is deliver that content to consumers in a way where they will appreciate the value,” he said.

If they add content that is truly worth paying for, that's fine. Their current crop of shit isn't even all that desirable as a freebie.

I don't know much about individual networks and shows and variances in policies, I just know I can go to cbs.com and catch NCIS the day after it airs and can watch the full season, and I have to wait 8 days to watch House on Fox/Hulu and can only catch the most recent five episodes. This way, if I miss one show, I'm going to miss the next one, too, because the network broadcast of the next show will happen before I can see the last one online.
:bow CBS
:piss Fox/Hulu
-
Before we get our panties into a bunch, the likelihood that folks being charged for reruns of a network show is unlikely.
The reality is that HD content, films and original content will cost Hulu spacebucks or whatever.
-
Partys.
-
I just use it to watch Heroes
-
I use it for Lost and FlashForward. I would use it for Fringe, but Fox are a bunch of Nazis and won't put up season 1.
And Spaced when I don't feel like pulling out the DVDs.
-
Fuck hulu.
-
Guess I'll only be using ninjavideo from now on.
:rock
-
Unfortunate but I think they'll learn an interesting lesson when people aren't willing to pay for what they can get for free.

HD content, films and original content are not really readily available for mass consumption at the low price of free.

what a god damn tool box

I use it to catch up with Lost (going soo slow btw), Always Sunny, and hopefully for the next season of 24. That's about it. I'm guessing that type of stuff will remain free, but maybe they'll charge for HD quality. I doubt they'll be charging for Voltron episodes for instance

Pretty much. I'm privy to some stuff going on over at Hulu, and I doubt they're about to undermine their brand strength by charging what they have been giving away for free.
But be prepared to pay for 1080p episodes, HD movies and original content.

Kinda funny/annoying hearing people assume Hulu is going to charge for everything, thus causing views to flee=end of success. Yea...I'm pretty sure Hulu understands their business model better than the average GAFer extraordinaire
