Happened to me twice this year with my 60 gig. They ended up sending me a different 60 gig both times within the week that I sent it. Fucking worse part of a PS3 breaking down: losing all your data. Best set some time aside too to redownload everything (except for saves, that's history).

Post by: duckman2000 on October 23, 2009, 09:42:39 PM: I started backing up my HDD regularly when the system began showing signs of failure. Made it pretty smooth when it finally died. If you don't have an external HDD, you can use any USB drive.

honestly, they ought to make it a policy to send you a ps2 if you send in a BC unit, i mean it probably costs them less than $30 to produce nowadays

You could not send in the Hard Drive, but it literally won't do you any good. The only reason not to send the hard drive in is if you are not running the original drive anymore (IE Upgraded).

You can not use the HD in another PS3. The HD is encrypted by the system board and the only thing that will read the drive is the systemboard that formatted it. Put it in a different PS3 it will ask to format it.

Before I remembered the Costco warranty (again, :bow Costco :bow2), I was wondering how to deal with that. Paying to repair something that was so bloody expensive to buy was annoying enough, but I had some plans on bring hell on Sony support if they couldn't guarantee that I would get a system of equal value.

Lulz, yeah. On the other hand, it should work in Ratchet's favor. Can't really bitch about it being too similar to the old games when you can't play them.

I think you can include a note and they will take care of that. Or tell a customer service rep, get their name and number and hold them responsible if the game isn't returned.

I remember transferring all PS2 saves to my PS3 way back when. They had a dongle that connected via USB that allowed you to transfer saves. Those are all gone now. Oh well.

But, hey, that's the price I pay for not backing up my stuff.

But I will say this I like that they allow up to 5 consoles to be registered to my downloads.
