It's all over. :teehee
-
you need a disc or some bullshit.
:teehee
-
dcharlie:
you can configure proxy server in ps3 connection settings, it is somewhere there so it's a bit easier to bypass it at least but haven't tested it myself so you are on your own.
-
Only different thing sounds like the ability to manage your queue on the PS3 itself. I didn't jump in when it came to the 360 and I doubt I will here.
Initially, watching movies instantly streamed from Netflix via the PS3 system will be enabled by a free, instant streaming Blu-ray disc that is being made available to all Netflix members. The free instant streaming disc leverages Blu-ray’s BD-Live™ technology to access the Internet and activate the Netflix user interface on the PS3 system, which must be online via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
wait, what?
-
A disc? Like an install disc? Why the hell wouldn't they just make the software downloadable from PSN? Makes me less likely to take advantage of this.
-
So this is free when Microsoft only allows this feature to paying Gold members? ???
Also, if it is a one-time install disc, I don't see it being a problem. But if you have to pop it in every time you want to stream a movie no way in hell will I use this feature. Especially when the 360 version is seamlessly integrated into the dash
-
I bet you have to pop the disc in every time.
But yes, this makes the Gold requirement look distinguished mentally-challenged.
-
Xbox Lag owned once again. :drake

If I have to pop a disc in everytime to access Netflix on the PS3, I'm not sure if that makes the Gold requirement any more distinguished mentally-challenged.
-
Kind of funny that Sony touted BR as the next coming...but have movies available for download through PSN. Now streaming movies through Netflix...so awesome.
power of Cell :lol
-
eh. having to put a disc in seems kinda stupid, but not a huge deal in the long run. I hopeit makes xbox drop the gold requirement on their end.
wonder what the rationality was behind this (lol sony).
-
The existence of this as a free service makes the Gold requirement look distinguished mentally-challenged. You don't even have to pay $10 for the disc, as originally rumored.
-
this kind of makes sense:

Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities noted that the Blu-ray disc required for Netflix playback on the PS3 may circumvent exclusivity clauses instituted by Microsoft. "We believe that the exclusive arrangement limits Netflix's ability to appear on the 'dashboard' for the PS3 or the Wii."
lol at the Wii bit though. Is the Wii even capable of streaming movies? :smug
-
The Wii doesn't even have DVD playback. Something tells me Wii owners aren't really waiting for Netflix.
-
I doubt the Wii could handle it unless it was Video CD era .mpg format or something
-
netflix Wii converts sound files to midi
-
I love it how Netflix is cool again for PS3 owners. Gotta love that.
-
The Wii doesn't even have DVD playback.
I think it does, you just have to homebrew it
-
Also Netflix is garbage regardless of platform. Play games, not movies. PS3 has no games though so it's ok
-
lol at the Wii bit though. Is the Wii even capable of streaming movies? :smug
don't laugh but I'm using MPlayer on a hacked Wii to stream TV shows from my NAS to my bedroom SDTV. :-[ Works pretty well.
-

Midi Dolby Prologic II :smug . I can hear the beeps and boops as if I was there.
-

::) If there were achievements for Netflix you would be all over it
-
Did I tounge your pussy with that comment? Maybe you should wisen up.
-
If I'm not mistaken Netflix sent out a survey asking about whether customers would like the service on their wii. I dunno the technical stuff, but the Nintendo Channel streams stuff well enough.
-
PS3, the best "gaming" platform ever!
-
Only different thing sounds like the ability to manage your queue on the PS3 itself.
Huh? You can also do this on the Xbox 360? I can remove and add films at my leisure, and I can do it by genre, Netflix recommendations, new arrivals, etc.
The streaming service is pretty awesome. Glad our PS3 owners can bask in the glow of streaming media! :rock

I thought the 360 couldn't browse all movie, just what's on your queue and popular ones?
then it's even less appealing for a dual console owner like myself.
I'll probably need to get netflix in november anyway to rewatch all movies I missed for one of my classes.
-
I signed up for Netflix. 1 disc a month, plus Blu-Ray. My wife seems to want crappy ass chick flicks, so I guess I'll have to step up to 2 discs eventually.
lol at the Wii bit though. Is the Wii even capable of streaming movies? :smug
The Wii is very capable, but Nintendo is just too god damn cheap/lazy to license DVD playback.

It transcodes movies into Cinepak files
-
Sony late to the party once again. :smug
-
can bd-live even handle hd content?
-
Yes, BD-Live can be HD. How else would they use it to stream HD trailers?
Anyways, discs are sent out. Arriving tomorrow.
-
Noticed last night that they put up some MST3K episodes for streaming. Awesome.
-
Late next year is when the MS exclusivity expires most likely.
-
i bet it sucks compared to streaming on 360.
-
i bet it sucks compared to streaming on 360.
If you are on a launch PS3 using Wifi, hell yes.
-
i bet it sucks compared to streaming on 360.
REALLY? ::)
-
If you are on a launch PS3 using Wifi, hell yes.
I use Wi-Fi on my 360 Elite, and HD streaming works just fine.
-
oh right you need the disc in the tray. which right off the bat makes netflix streaming inferior on ps3.
not that getting an inferior multiplat experience on ps3 is anything new.
-
Play Borderlands, not Shitflix
-
Disc streaming is their only solution so far. But it won't stay that way forever. I'm sure the disc won't be needed next year.
And the disc is only there for verification. I don't think it spins during a stream.
Disc>>>>Live fee.
-
If you are on a launch PS3 using Wifi, hell yes.
I use Wi-Fi on my 360 Elite, and HD streaming works just fine.
Except the 360 WiFi adapter is about 10,000 times better than the piece of shit wireless card installed on the launch PS3s.
-
Who uses their 360 for online and doesn't use Gold? :lol
-
Looks about as good as the 360 implementation, but no browsing like the 360 has.
-
"USE EVERYTIME TO WATCH INSTANTLY"
:rofl :rofl :rofl
-
it wouldn't be a problem for me seeing as i have no reason to swap out the disc :smug
-
loading when scrolling and when switching categories is really slow and i'm on a wired connection. gonna fire something up and see how slow it is when ff/rw. well that seems quick enough but unless i'm missing somethin it looks like the ps3 wont upscale the image.
-
Got the streaming disc last night, messed around with it for a few minutes. I've never used Netflix on XBLA, but I'm guessing it's the same aside from having to use a disc. Tons of movies available, most are crap, but there are a lot of documentaries and foreign films that I was interested in seeing but never got around to. You don't have to do anything on your computer, you see a movie and press X and it starts up.

Aw, suki suki now! Those Netflix instant streaming discs that started floating out to anxious PS3 owners yesterday are obviously splashing down, with YouTube user (and avid Engadget reader) otimus posting up a stellar walkthrough showing everything in action. We've got to admit -- the whole thing looks exceptionally sleek, but given the PS3's multimedia prowess, we didn't really expect anything less. He stated that he didn't notice any stuttering as he sifted through films and mashed play, and that any jitters you see in the video (after the break) can be blamed on the janky TV capture device. So, any others receive their disc today? How's the experience?
[Thanks, Otis]
:wtf
Who uses their 360 for online and doesn't use Gold? :lol
sprsk!
