I haven't read the thread entirely but supposedly there's a glitch which charges you for the 2 cheapest games and then gives you the most expensive for free. For example, you can buy 2 $5 games, a $60 game and then pay $10 for them. The trick is supposedly let the free game be the 2nd one be rung up.
Personally, it seems kinda unethical but it's not really something illegal either.

Sounds like it's already being fixed. I doubt it will be the case today or tomorrow, because dummies are spreading it over the Internet.
-
I like the Amazon deal better
-
Plus I dont want to do it only to find out it doesnt work, now I'm stuck with games I didnt want to pay for. lol

Yep. Just like the ECA discount codes.
-
Going there tomorrow morning anyways. So maybe I'll try my hand at this for a cheap ballad of gay tony or ratchet and clank.
-
If it works for you G get me a cheap Borderlands. I will pay you back
-
if it works i'll get you a copy but you'll have to suffer with playing with me through the whole campaign in coop. JK!
-
fuck best buy for not having forza 3 :(
-
Great jesus what a day! 94 bucks!

:bow Rock Revolution :bow2
:piss the rest of that crap :piss2
-
That's awesome.
-
Bz send me some of those extras.
-
I'm gonna take them back for store credit, I might however not be able to do so. If thats the case I'll consider it. Wanna call dibs on anything?
-
Did your placeholder idea work? I might just use the Amazon deal to get Borderlands if you can't do it.
-
I went to the local stores and called a lot of them to see if they had the game in stock. But I got Tekken as a placeholder. I'm gonna call up a few more stores before they close cause today they get trucks at all the bestbuys near here. Still wanna get borderlands, forza 3, and dirt 2 if possible. If not then i'm just gonna sell Tekken or something.
EDIT. they didnt have any copies earlier but a few media managers said they would do the exchange when they get them in stock.
-
Are you willing to part with any of those games for a reasonable price?
-
that's a fucking hell of a score. I'm jealous (former flipper here.)
-
Between myself and my girlfriend yes we wanted all the games besides the aforementioned tekken that I got cause they had 20+ copies and I needed a placeholder.
-
Tekken is the only one I'd keep. :lol well, besides the fallout packs and maybe GTA if I hadn't bought it the second it was avaliable on xbla.
Maybe I'd get Uncharted 2 so I could marvel at how the graphics aren't as good as crysis.
-
What in the fuck is Fairytale Fights?
-

Ah well. Did you go to any particular best buy or did it work in multiple places (I'm assuming you still live in cupertino)?
-
Went to the sunnyvale (el camino) one when it opened and got a few of the games. EPA didn't have much in the way of cheaper games so it was a bust. But the mountain view store ended up being where I got the majority of the games. As they had what I was looking for and were pretty cool about the whole thing.
Sunnyvale was god awful to me once they figured out what was going on. They got a call from another local store. And so when I went up with another batch of games they told me there was something wrong and that they would have to make sure the games were of equal value.
I was tempted to go to Santana Row but they don't have what I'm looking for.
-
Heh, what happens when they fix the glitch and you end up with Fairytale Fights as your free game? "Uuh, I don't want the games anymore, cancel the transaction!"
-
You open it and you play it. The game is pretty awesome looking. Bloody grimms fairy tales in a fat princess art style setting.
-
"G" So which CAG are you?
Let us say that I feel guilty for the "exploit/glitch. Awesome haul you got there.
I did love when one of the CAG said it would be funny if RR now became a greatest hits or BB ordered more of those. They couldn't give them away at $5, until now.
Fairy Tales fights was awesome at PAX, but it wasn't a $50 game. I thought it would be epic for $20.
-
I'm a cagger and a happy one at that :) now to decide if I want to go all the way to gilroy for Forza 3 and Fallout 3 GOTY for demi tomorrow.
-
Do it G. You want to be my friend, don't you
-
I thought that we already were, I mean don't you remember that time behind the mcdonalds? I'll go!
-
Yeah, Roxy felt so nice
-
Teh hamburger is a CD Holder? That's awesome.
-
I too agree that the flipping assholes are getting a tad crazy. Don't even go over to Slickdeals, they are committing return fraud by returning the two games they pay for and keeping the free game. They arent even getting store credit but all of their money back. I personally have a motto of leaving some for others as well as only getting what myself and my girlfriend want. Granted I hoarded the shit out of some Rock Revolution :P
-
El Hoardo! at CAG is pretty irrating. Just as bad as the flippers that take 12 copies of a target clearance game and leave none for those that would play it.
That thread was mostly about either returning games for a B1G1 or place holders until I derailed it :'(
-
Granted I hoarded the shit out of some Rock Revolution :P
You're doing the world a favor I'd say!
It really brings a new meaning to "taking one for the team".
-
Meh, flipping has earned me a lot of extra cash and I couldn't give less of a shit about people on the internet that I don't know. win/win 8)
though I'm not one of those "return fraud/buy a 100 copies of games that can have $5 profit tops" guys. too much effort/too illegal.
-
I did this at Circuit City way back.
They had a B2G1 on the Greatest Hits, but fucked up, and all $20 games became $5.
So I went down there, grabbed a ton of shit. A guy was watching me and said "Oh, so it's still working?" and I just said I was about to find out. I also brought along my roommate who grabbed a bunch, too.
We go to the checkout and the guy scanning me was loving these prices.
My roommate got stuck in a line behind a woman who refused to pay these prices, because it felt wrong to her, so they called a manger. I had finished my shit, but by the time my roommate was rung up, they were manually fixing the glitch.
-
I gave him a few of my games, though. I felt bad.
-
gaming has always been such an expensive hobby. I remember being young and pretty broke, and all the schemes we'd run on stores in order to play more than we needed to. :lol
back in the day (N64 was about a year in), there was a bud's in town. bud's basically sold all the crap returned/not wanted to area (?) walmarts. like a worse version of big lots. my dad liked the store and would always drag us there. one day I noticed that they had a huge glass case full of N64 games...most open, some not, but all were ten dollars. at the time, toys r us had an in-store currency called 'geoffrey dollars' they gave for trade-in games (which was always higher than babbage's in the mall). I ended up buying two games I knew were pretty new, just to trade them in towards some PS1 games. I figured I'd get like $20 apiece. TRU gave me $40 each. unopened ones went right back to walmart for even exchanges.
I bought way too many games as a result of this, and returned tons of those as well. it was like a nerdy self-perpetuation engine. semi, anyway. I had limited money to buy the cheap games.
this was all before stuff like CAG, so I pretty much had it all to myself until TRU stopped printing geoffrey dollars. :'(
-
it was like a nerdy self-perpetuation engine.
:rofl
New term for my lexicon, thanks.
-
So I trumbled through the CAG thread and here's the rundown:
It seems the system either makes the 1st or 2nd one free every time.
Each store is different. Feel free to experiment?
Sometimes two of the same SKU causes issues. No real patten found yet.
Tomorrow is the last day of the sale. Will they fix it for that?
-
I wish I had the time for flipping. I would like to get games for cheaper. So far I've been just waiting on the new releases until they clearance or go plat/GH. It only sucks when there is an awesome borefest I miss out on.
90% of the time it's the middle game that drops out. Other times it's random. It's the clearance games that seem to be giving it problems. Damn SD people trying it with RR because it's $5. That said I would love to get a $60 for $10, but I won't try this on purpose. I did get L4D GOTY for free due to the glitch, but I wasn't trying to exploit.
The thread is awesome but it got totally derailed with the glitch. But it was like I said way better then the return fraud and/or ebay scaplers that was going on before the derail.
-
It requires a lot of free time and even then, it's not really worth it. My main sources were actually pawn shops and YMMV clearances at stores. It helped me get a lot of extra spending money throughout college and, on top of my real job, helped save a bunch for law school. But these days, everyone and their mom knows about ebay, SD, FW, and CAG. Things are drier than they've ever been since I started back in 2004 or so. Instead of a steady supply of games to flip from a lot of sources, this year I relied on periodic windfalls where I just happened to find a big stash at a pawnshop in time. It worked out, but it was risky.
Right, but you're still a JERKASS.
True, but I can't help that I live in a capitalist society that taught me to be this way :'( lets put it this way-- the odds of me preventing someone I like from getting a game are a lot lower than preventing someone I don't like.
-
Thanks for the awesome insight on flipping.
Agreed that bargin hunting is now mainstream and difficult to do.
I'm now feeling guilty of the shit I might have started, and it turned into a what's the cheapest game I can buy to rip off best buy. I should have known. Oh well, my conscious is mostly clean.
-
No cheap games at gilroy and they did not allow exchange, F THEM! Deal is as good as dead now at least in my area as they took a lot of the cheap games off the shelves.
-
Interesting. Or El Hoardo! bought the cheap games.
Still I think you said you were happy(?) with the games you got.
-
WELL I'M NOT GOD DAMNIT G YOU FAILED
-
Still got one more day, maybe I'll conjure up some magic for halloween day
-
Wooo found them and its at the good store!!! Gonna go over there after dinner. Better be thankful demi!
-
Went out of the way for demi tonight and dragged the gf along to see what we might scare up. We couldn't get the rock revolutions to work but for 15 bucks a game its still a steal.

Now do Borderlands next and we got ourselves a deal

I want borderlands, but my BB is out of it. Don't have time today with holloween for the kids to do shopping today to go to another BB.
Oh well miss out on the exploit, unless somebody is willing to hook a gamer up. I'd pay for the PS3 version, I don't expect free.
-

Wow, what a bitch. Had to ruin everybody's fun.
Woah, yeah, what a bitch. Imagine, daring to not take advantage of someone.
Why is it when Best Buy fucks over a customer everyone goes OH MY GOD HOW DARE THEY I AM A CUSTOMER DONT YOU KNOW MY MONIES but when a person fucks over Best Buy everyone goes "gg dude, nice job my turn"?
I understand the impulse, but certainly you can't be able to mentally reconcile the difference.
-
Uh, no. BB is a faceless, soulless corporation known for providing shitty customer service. Fuck them. Fuck them for destroying specialty music retailers in particular. Anytime they get scammed it makes me happy.
BU BU BU THE HUGE MULTINATIONAL CORPORATION! WHO WILL THINK OF THEM! Next thing you know you're gonna tell me you've never pirated anything, which I know is a fucking lie.

I never said that. I pirate maybe 25% of what I own. I don't think it's exactly okay to be doing it, but I do it.
My point is this: The customer/seller relationship has been become incredibly dysfunctional. I'm not bummed that people are looting BB when they fail to program their registers correctly, but then you have no room to complain when they fuck you back. Eye for an eye blah blah.
But the troubling part was when someone said: "Hey, there's a problem here" and everyone went FUCK YOU BITCH. Wrong is wrong, dudes. You can rationalize it however you need, I'm not immune to that. But to not even recognize the moral relativity in this situation is just. Dark.
-
$10 Fallout 3 GOTY ftw
-
More like 15 +5 for shipping, but you can just think of it as a early half off xmas gift :p
-
Oh sorry Bz, sorry you had to spend so much money
Why do you have to be so Dark?
-
There is no rational justification for piracy but I download shit and take advantage of poorly thought out deals all the time because why bother paying for it if you can get it for free (or almost free in this case)
